The Starfield system requirements have now been confirmed, but can your PC run it?

Starfield is Bethesda’s latest game, and if it’s anything like their other recent games, it’s going to look fantastic. The game is highly anticipated, with fans looking forward to exploring space through the company’s unique RPG lens.

If you’re playing on console, there’s nothing to worry about, but many people out there will surely be wondering if their PC can handle running the game at a high enough FPS. We’ve had a quick glance at the game’s system requirements, and we’d recommend an upgrade to the best graphics cards and the best CPUs for gaming in light of this. To run the game, it’s recommended you have at least a GTX 1070 Ti, but to enjoy an optimal gaming experience you’re going to want an RTX 2080.

These aren’t particularly low-end or cheap kits of hardware to come across, which means that this isn’t going to be a very easy game to run.

Let’s go over the minimum and recommended specs for Starfield now.

Starfield PC system requirements confirmed by Bethesda

Confirmed via their own website – here are the Starfield system requirements.

Starfield minimum system requirements

The Starfield minimum requirements are what you’ll need to meet just to reasonably run the game. These minimum specs won’t give you the best performance, and it’s likely you won’t be able to play at higher resolutions and frame rate. However, you’re going to be able to play the game – and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

  • OS: Windows 10 version 22H2 (10.0.19045)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700, NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 125 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required

If you’re interested in playing Starfield with the recommended system requirements, you’re going to need an RTX 2080 or RX 6800 XT at the very least.

Alongside that, you’re going to need an Intel i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 3600X, both of which are pretty powerful processors. For both the minimum and recommended requirements, you’re going to need at least 16GB RAM, which has since become the new norm for gaming memory.

  • OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 125 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: SSD Required

Whether you’re aiming for the minimum settings or you’re taking the game on with a powerful rig, you’ll want to make sure you have an SSD with enough storage space to download the game onto, as this will speed up loading the game dramatically over an HDD. Can my PC run Starfield in 4K?

To run Starfield in 4K, we looked to AMD, the official partner of Starfield. They suggest that you use an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D with an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card if you’re the “absolute best Starfield experience in 4K.” For both those specs, you’ll also need an AMD X670 Motherboard.

As you can see, it’s pretty demanding work, but definitely worth it if you’re a mega fan of Starfield. If that sounds like you, then make sure you know where to buy the Starfield Limited Edition Xbox controller too!
