What is Destiny 2 Ex Diris?

Ex Diris is a brand new exotic grenade launcher. It deals arc damage, and fits into the special ammo slot, making it a versatile weapon. The Hive theming isn’t an aesthetic choice alone though – this weapon’s grenade shots are actually Hive Knight boomer rounds, giving it some fantastic explosive impact.

Stats wise it’s not designed with blast radius or velocity in mind, instead being geared towards reload speed, handling and aim assist to improve its versatility in combat. The weapon’s intrinsic trait is Corrupted Nucleosynthesis. This exotic perk enrages while dealing or taking sustained damage. Being enraged improves rate of fire, further boosting this gun’s advantages in speed. Though it has no origin trait, it does feature another two unique traits. Nucleosynthetic Magazine continuously pulls ammo from reserves, eliminating the need to reload with this weapon. Loyal Moths meanwhile spawns a loyal Lucent Hive moth on final blows with this weapon. The moth will seek out and detonate on the nearest enemy target, blinding them.

Overall, Ex Diris is a pretty powerful weapon. Its raw damage numbers and ad clearing capacity will be beaten out by a lot of other guns, but the synergistic nature of its perks and its speed still make it a viable option – potentially even for PvP. If you want a full breakdown of our choices for the best PvP weapons or best PvE weapons though, we already have you covered.

How to get the Destiny 2 Ex Diris catalyst

If you want the catalyst for this gun, you need to complete the Grenade Logic quest, which can pick up from Banshee-44 in the Tower. Like the Centrifuse catalyst before it, this catalyst quest is pretty hefty, so don’t expect to rush through it.
For the first step, you’ll need to:

  • Get 20 multikills with Ex Diris.
  • Get 25 kills without dying with Ex Diris.

For the second step, you’ll need to:

  • Generate 200 calibration data. Finishing high difficulty weekly Nightfalls and winning Gambit and Crucible matches will generate more.
  • Defeat 450 enemies total with Ex Diris. You’ll likely complete this along the way to getting the calibration data.

After this, return to Banshee to collect your reward.

What does the Ex Diris catalyst do?

When the catalyst is equipped, any final blows with Ex Diris will grant you the Amplified buff. While Amplified, your Enrage buff will also build up faster. It’s worth noting though that as Amplified is an arc subclass buff, this may only work with the arc subclass equipped. We’ll be sure to update this once we know for sure.

That covers everything you’ll need to get the Destiny 2 Ex Diris exotic and catalyst. With the road towards the Final Shape release date now clear, make sure to get your hands on as many powerful weapons like these as you can, like the new Season of the Wish weapons. Weapons are just half the equation though, so if you’re on the lookout for the best Hunter exotics or best Warlock exotics, we can help you out. Don’t forget to take a look at the Veil quest too, if you’ve not caught up on all the lore yet.
