Can you play Lethal Company in single player?

Yes, you can play Lethal Company in single player, although we probably wouldn’t recommend it. The main point of Lethal Company is to explore abandoned moons, avoiding alien creatures and collecting scrap, which you can sell to meet your quota for the company. As a solo player, you’re fairly limited to how much scrap you can carry, making it much harder to meet your quota without that teamwork.

This is especially true once you factor in the monsters. In co-op, you’ve got crewmates that can help you avoid the monsters, guide you with walkie talkies, and if you die, they can retrieve your body and all the scrap you picked up. When solo, once you die, that’s it, making the whole game a lot harder.

That being said, there’s nothing at all stopping you from giving it a go, so if you aren’t interested in the multiplayer, you can still experience the core gameplay loop in a solo game.

Instead, our recommendation would be to join a public lobby. The best way to play Lethal Company is in groups of four, and if you’re playing by yourself, you can easily find yourself a group of strangers to tag along with. And who knows, you might even find yourself a regular group to play with.

How to play Lethal Company solo

Setting up your own solo Lethal Company game is fairly easy. Once you launch the game, open the main menu, select the option for a LAN game instead of the online mode, and host your own session. Next, set the server to be friends-only instead of public, meaning only those who you specifically invite can join. Now just start up the server, and you’re ready to collect some scrap in solo play.

Alex’s Advice

Having a shovel is a great idea for self-defence. Many creatures can be defeated by jumping on a railing and hitting them with a shovel from above – make sure to use this as a last resort!

When playing alone, you’ll want to make sure to use items to your advantage. Without anyone to watch your back, having a flashlight to look around, as well as a Zap Gun or Stun Grenade is a must, so you can avoid being killed. Prioritise staying alive, and aim for multiple quick runs instead of longer bouts of exploration. Good luck meeting that first quota!
