Lethal Company sales estimate

There is no way to publicly view the total sales numbers of games on Steam, and as the developer Zeekerss hasn’t stated it themselves yet, we don’t have a concrete figure. However, we can come up with a reasonable estimate, thanks to what we know about Steam reviews and their relationship to sales numbers.

Depending on the game, it’s often said that between 1/20 and 1/30 owners of a game will leave a Steam review. As of 6 February 2024, Lethal Company has just over 261,000 reviews on Steam, meaning a potential range of between 5.5 million and 8.3 million copies sold. Some websites such as VG Insights and Gamalytic as listed by SteamDB have gone even higher, estimating sales of 10.2 million and 12.5 million respectively.

Fun Fact

While Lethal Company may have already sold around 5.5-8.3 million copies, it’s still far behind fellow co-op horror Phasmophobia which is estimated to have sold an estimated 10-15 million copies.

This is a fairly large range, and the true figure is likely to be somewhere in the middle. And until we receive any concrete number, it’s going to remain guesswork for now. Either way, it’s an incredible success for any indie game to achieve, especially when you consider that Zeekerss is a solo developer. The game briefly became the top-selling game on the Steam charts, beating out massive titles such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, EA Sports FC 24, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Forza Horizon.

Reddit post from 12 January claims that Lethal Company had made $52 million in revenue at the time of writing. With the game retailing at around $10, this would mean it had sold roughly 5.2 million copies by that point.

It’s followed in the path of some pretty big surprise hits like BattleBit Remastered and fellow horror genre indie Phasmophobia. And while updates are progressing slowly but surely, due to the game only having a single person working on it, the fact the indie title is not even out of early access yet means it’s likely to only get bigger and better, with new creatures, planets, and more on the way.

It’s safe to say Lethal Company captured the current trends at the right time.
