Dragon’s Dogma 2 A Veil of Gossamer Clouds is an optional side quest that sees you and Sven delving into some of the political intrigue of the game’s world. But like many quests in this game, it’s not always clear where you’re supposed to go and what you’re supposed to do. That’s why we’ve made this guide to take you through it all step by step.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 A Veil of Gossamer Clouds walkthrough
A Veil of Gossamer Clouds can be started after the coronation, and once you’ve reached Bakbattahl for the first time. You may be approached by a guard asking you to visit Regentkin Sven back in Vernworth, but if no guard approaches you, it doesn’t matter. Return to Vernworth Castle and talk to Sven. Sven’s chambers are located on the map above.
Sven will hand you a letter addressed to someone named Phaesus, telling you that he suspects that something is going on behind the scenes between Vermund and Battahl that his mother and advisors are trying to keep quiet. He asks you to head to Bakbattahl and see what you can investigate.
Fast travel back, or if you don’t have a Portcrystal there, you can travel from the west Vernworth oxcart station to the Checkpoint Rest Town, and then from there take another oxcart to Bakbattahl.
Investigating Phaesus
Phaesus is an NPC located in the Forbidden Magick Research Lab in Bakbattahl. The easiest way to get there it so go through the main entrance of the Flamebearer Palace. Turn left at the Flame Altar, and then immediately turn left again through a small archway. Walk down this ramp until you reach a large spiral staircase.
Alex’s Advice
We recommend doing this part of the quest during the day. If you come at night, you risk the guards suspecting you and even potentially arresting you.
Descend the staircase until you reach a door on the left-hand wall, found about halfway down the staircase. Enter this door and walk past the dead dragon until a cutscene plays showing two NPCs, Jerome and Yglie, discussing a letter that has been delivered.
Finding the secret letter
Once the cutscene finishes, it’s time to find the letter. It’s located in Laboratorium Workshop #2, which is the second room on your right when entering from the staircase. Head inside and you’ll find a Letter to Lord Phaesus sitting on a desk in the middle of the room. Pick it up and head out.
With the secret letter in hand, all you need to do now is to bring it back to Sven. Travel back to Vernworth Castle in your manner of choice and head back to Sven’s room. Give him the letter and he will reward you with 20,000G and a Ferrystone for your troubles.
