Where can you find Onyx in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Onyx is a valuable gem in DD2 and here’s where you can find them:

  • We’ve obtained Onyx from Goblins and Knackers, enemies who lurk just outside Vernworth. Bandits in the area’s shacks might have them as well. I got two Onyx gems from a fallen Griffin in Battahl.
  • They can also be found in rare chests in mines like the Trevo Mine to the west of Vernworth.
  • Some quests like A Beggar’s Tale reward you with Onyx and other gems.
  • Pawn quests (associated with a specific pawn) can also offer Onyx as a reward.

What can you do with the Onyx in Dragon’s Dogma 2

While its high price might make it a good sell, the Onyx has another purpose in DD2. And no, it is not a part of crafting recipes or weapon attachments. It can be gifted to NPCs to advance your affinity with them. This can even lead to romance in some cases so pick your recipients wisely.

Your NPC logbook in the History menu has a list of NPCs. Here, you can check the Likes section to see what gifts they prefer. So if you want to boost your affinity with a character like Ulrika, gift them an Onyx. While NPCs prefer specific items, it’s not known which gift category the Onyx falls into.

The item’s in-game description offers a hint at where you should sell this resource. ‘Scarcely seen in Vermund’ implies that you can sell Onyx at a higher price at Melve and Vernworth (the capital of Vermund). These include Roderic’s Smithy, Bjorn’s Armory, and Ibrahim’s Scrap Store. Vendors normally pay 800 Gold for it but in Vermund, this goes up to 2400 Gold. Based on our time with the game, we can assure you that this makes a big difference when it comes to affording the best gear in DD2.

Stock up on gems in your storage and sell them at the right vendor

You can earn over three times the regular Gold if you hold on to your gems before selling them at the right vendor.

That covers where to get and sell Onyx in DD2. Sell them at the right spot and you’ll find it easier to afford weapons like the best daggers in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and new armor sets. If you’re on a gem hunt, consider looking for valuables like the Jasper in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Tiger Eye as well.
