Dragon’s Dogma 2 exclamation marks pop up regularly on your map, but the game doesn’t do a good job at all of explaining what they mean. To make matters worse, the way they disappear doesn’t seem to stick to a set  pattern, which can be very confusing when you’re out exploring.

We’ll explain what Dragon’s exclamation marks mean. For more help when you’re out and about in Vermund, check out our Dragon’s Dogma 2 tips and tricks beginners guide, how to get Art of Metamorphosis, our The Caged Magistrate walkthrough, how to get Salubrious Draught, and how to get Wakestones.

What do exclamation marks mean in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Exclamation marks in Dragon’s Dogma 2 designate points of interest that your Pawns have spotted that are worth investigating. These can be chests, documents, ladders, Seeker’s Coins, an environmental feature like a bridge or boulder that can be destroyed, ledges, and more. They are also often hidden, require traversal, or some basic problem solving.

In other words, as you explore your Pawns will pick up on something in the environment and typically spit out a remark and nudge you to investigate. From there, an exclamation mark icon will show up on your map and minimap. In traditional games, exclamation marks usually refer to a quest or NPC, but in Dragon’s Dogma 2 it can point to all manner of things as noted above.

The bottom line is that exclamation marks are optional and, despite the icon, don’t necessarily point to anything all that interesting. So, don’t feel forced to investigate when one pops up. It’s also worth noting that some exclamation marks don’t seem to clear once you’ve investigated – for example certain destroyable bridges or ladders.
