With a mix of healing and offensive spells, the Mage is a solid class to try out once you enter Dragon’s Dogma 2. Our best Mage build gives you all the weapon skills, core skills, and equipment needed to take its monsters head-on with pawns.

Best Mage build in Dragon’s Dogma 2
This Mage build for beginners is geared at all-around support and offense capabilities in Dragon’s Dogma 2. So while we will adopt some healing, we won’t go all in on supporting pawns in combat. Instead, we’ve kept some offense spells to deal solid amounts of damage to enemy monsters.
Here’s our best Mage build in Dragon’s Dogma 2:
- Skills – Levin, Palladium, Flagration, Celerity
- Core skills – Anodyne, Focused Bolt, Levitate, Quickspell
- Augments – Sustainment, Subtlety, Catalysis, Perpetuation, Sagacity, Exaltation
- Weapons – Goblin Bane, Solar Numen
- Early Armor – Bishop’s Crown, Enchanter’s Quilted Gown, Euphoric Hosen
- Final Armor – Illuminary Crown, Monastic Toga, Neophyte’s Hosen
Best Mage pawn party composition in Dragon’s Dogma 2
We recommend pairing your Mage with a Fighter, Rogue, and Archer. This is my current setup and my pawns have been invaluable against many of DD2’s threats. You can swap out the Fighter and Archer for a Warrier and Magick Archer for some more offensive power. As a Mage, stay out of direct melee range and buff your allies with Celerity and Palladium before dropping some attacks.
Flagration is better against mobs and while Levin can hit a small pack of enemies, it’s great at single-target damage. A Fighter and Thief will protect your front line and can climb onto bosses to chip away at their weak spots. As for an Archer, their Explosive Arrow attacks can keep pesky enemies from getting too close.
Best Mage weapon skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Here are our best weapon skills for a Mage in Dragon’s Dogma 2:
- Levin – Deal lightning damage to an enemy. Use Stamina to call in more lightning strikes.
- Palladium – Nullify damage up to three hits.
- Flagration – Short range flamethrower that hits multiple foes.
- Celerity – Creates a sign that boosts the speed of all allies within it for some time.
Levin is a good offensive spell because not many enemies have lightning resistance and you can pick them off from a distance. Pour more Stamina into it to launch even more attacks. They’re particularly helpful while grounding flying enemies. Weaker enemies can also be staggered with this spell.
Your second spell of choice is Palladium, which lets you tank some enemy hits and protect your miniscule health bar. When it comes to fire damage, Flagration is reliable thanks to its quick cast time with Quickspell. Celerity is another great team-wide buff that boosts speed, an essential stat against bosses.
Remember to upgrade these to their High variants. Flagration is more potent with the upgrade, letting you char even more foes. As for Levin, it casts even more lightning strikes. Palladium grants glowing orbs of invincibility to all nearby allies with its upgrade, making it essential for boss fights.
Best Mage core skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Pick these core skills as a Mage in Dragon’s Dogma 2:
- Anodyne – Create a sigil that heals allies and the player when in contact with it.
- Focused Bolt – Fire a concentrated bolt based on your enchantment.
- Quickspell – Lets you cast spells faster at the cost of your stamina.
- Levitate – Float temporarily.
When you’re in the thick of battle, Quickspell will let you cast spells faster. Just remember that this drains your Stamina. And Focused Bolt is a good offensive core skill to keep as it changes its type based on your enchantment. It’s also good while staggering foes if you’re caught off guard.
Levitate is helpful when trying to explore the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 to get chests and hidden loot. It also looks cool. As for Anodyne, it’s an essential area heal that keeps your team fighting for longer. Just remember that it doesn’t affect the rest gauge.
You can only create one healing sign with Anodyne
If you create a second one, the first one disappears. So you’ll need to get in close to heal melee pawns. If your ranged pawns are low on health, they will automatically rush to the nearest healing sign.
How to unlock the Mage Maister skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Celestial Paean summons holy light that greatly increases your allies’s Stamina and speed while lowering the damage they take. It’s at the cost of your entire Stamina and knocks you off your feet so be careful of where you are as you use it. It can be obtained from Eini, whose home is just north of Melve village. Here, you’ll need to help her granddaughter Trysha with five spell tomes.
Best Mage augments build in Dragon’s Dogma 2
And here are the best Mage augments when you start Dragon’s Dogma 2:
- Sustainment – Otained at Rank 2 as a Magick Archer. Boost the Defense and Magick Defense of your entire party.
- Subtlety – Get this as a Thief at Rank 2. Makes it less likely for enemies to target you.
- Catalysis – A Rank 8 Sorcerer gets access to this augment. Boosts damage when targeting enemy elemental weaknesses.
- Perpetuation – A Rank 8 Mage can extend the duration of enchantments and invigorations.
- Sagacity – A Sorcerer gets this at Rank 9. Boosts your Magick.
- Exaltation – At Rank 9, your Mage will be able to boost your Stamina recovery speed.
These are pretty self-explanatory. Sustainment is a good party-wide buff that pairs well with Perpetuation’s buff of your support abilities. Subtlety makes you less likely to be the main attraction of enemy damage while Exaltation will let you summon spells more often.
Catalysis lets you hone in on enemy weaknesses while Sagacity improves your attacks in general. Remember that you can swap these out at a Vocation Guild so feel free to experiment with other augments. Endurance from the Archer vocation can be a good pick for the Mage as well.
Best Mage equipment in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Here’s the optimal equipment for a Mage in Dragon’s Dogma 2:
- Illuminary Crown – Gain 35 Defense and 73 Magick Defense for 24400 Gold at Bodas’ Armory in Bakbattahl.
- Monastic Toga – Boost your Defense by 95 and your Magick Defense by a solid 131 for 32800 Gold. Get it at Bodas’ Armory.
- Neophyte’s Hosen – 65 Defense and 80 Magick Defense. Found at Bodas’ Armory for 24300 Gold.
- Solar Numen – 45 Strength and 290 Magick for 36800 Gold at Awaran’s Arms in Bakbattahl.
Pick out the best rings and cloaks for the job too. I prefer having a Ring of Accrual as it boosts the weight you can carry. You can pick a cloak that grants even more defensive bonuses against status effects like Sleep and Poison. Try getting items that will enhance your Stamina as spells can drain you out quickly. As for your low health, consider the Ring of Exultation that buffs up your health.
