Lies of P Fable Arts aren’t likely to appear as an original concept to Souls-like and From Software veterans playing Neowiz’s dark fantasy RPG. But just because they might not have invented the system, doesn’t mean it isn’t good. Fable Arts are an intricate mechanic well worth the time and effort to learn about, and it’s through these Arts you can discover some of the best weapon abilities in the game.
Here, we’re going to go over Lies of P Fable Arts in detail, explain how they work, how to use them, and what the best abilities at your disposal are. You’ll need a good array of weapons on hand to make the most of this feature though, so make sure you know where to get weapons, the best weapon combos, and of course how to upgrade weapons in the game.
What are Fable Arts?
Fable Arts are special weapon abilities that can be charged and unleashed by the player to perform unique and powerful moves. These moves are usually combat-oriented, but can range from utility or support abilities to raw power, high damage attacks.
All weapons support two Fable Arts, one integrated into the handle, and one into the blade. With the exception of boss weapons, moving weapon parts around and onto new designs will bring the Fable Arts of the blade or handle with them. This can create some pretty powerful combinations when you know what you’re doing.
How do you use Fable Arts?
To use a Fable Art, press the triangle/Y button on controller or F on mouse and keyboard for a blade Art, and triangle/Y + L1 on controller or Shift+F on mouse and keyboard for a handle Art. This will execute a Fable Art, if you have the required charge for it.
Under your health and stamina bars, you’ll find a number of small dashes which glow blue as they fill up. These are your Fable Slots. Fable Slots represent charges, and every Fable Art consumes a certain number of charges to perform. You can see how many charges an Art needs by looking in the opposite corner, at the bottom left of your screen. When you have a weapon equipped, it’ll show an indicator for the individual Fable Art charges needed for the blade and hilt of the weapon. These too will glow blue once you have the required charges.
How to charge Fable Slots
Charging Fable Slots is the key to being able to use Fable Arts in the first place. Luckily, it’s a fairly straightforward affair. Deal damage to enemies, or pull of perfect guards, sometimes called perfect parries. If you’re not familiar with how to parry, we can help.
Dealing damage will slowly charge your Fable Slots, the higher the damage dealt, the faster this will occur. This effectively means that Fable Arts reward aggressive playstyles, with the Arts often acting as the last major attacks in a combo or sequence of counters to an opponent.
Best Fable Arts in Lies of P
As mentioned, there are a lot of different Fable Arts in the game, and many of them do different things. While most players will find Arts which work best for them and play to their particular strengths, there are some pretty standout options that appear better than their peers. Here are our top picks for the best Fable Arts and weapon abilities in Lies of P.
- Wind of Swords – Two Dragons Sword
- Retreating Stab – Salamander Dagger handle
- Alter – Holy Sword of The Aark
- Storm Slash – Booster Glaive blade
- Absolute Counterattack – Etiquette
Let’s quickly dive into what makes each of these so good.
Wind of Swords
It should be no surprise that we’ve got a few boss weapon Fable Arts on this list, and this is the first of them. Wind of Swords is a strong offensive manoeuvre you can employ from the Two Dragons Sword after defeating the Puppet-Devouring Green Monster.
This move sends out powerful slashes of wind that dig into enemies, and is a great way to dispatch weaker foes or finish off larger ones. Its ability to be used from a range gives it a great benefit in combat, allowing you to better control the battlefield.
Retreating Stab
Fast movement is key in a game like this, so it should be no surprise to see this Fable Art on our list. Coming from the Salamander Dagger, a weapon you’ll pick up from Venigni Factory Works, Retreating Stab will perform a quick, thrusting strike against your enemy before rapidly moving Pinocchio back over a distance great enough to put him out of range from most attacks.
The speed of the Art and its utility as a fallback option when you need space in combat makes it a reliable and highly useful Fable Art to have at your disposal.
Alter
This Art is from the Holy Sword of The Ark, a weapon you can get after you beat King’s Flame Fuoco. It’s a bit more unusual than most of the moves on this list, but that utility makes it a fantastic weapon ability.
Alter will temporarily reduce stamina consumption when using this weapon – a pretty good deal even just by itself. Even better however, the Fable Art will alter the length of your weapon, allowing greater reach and the opportunity to open distance. This makes it one of the most versatile Arts at your disposal.
Storm Slash
Sometimes, simple is enough. The Booster Glaive blade is a pretty competent weapon you’ll pick up early in the game, and the Fable Art on its blade is an excellent choice for players who prioritise power over all else.
Storm Slash performs a sweeping, acrobatic twirl of slashes through the air when activated, hitting the target multiple times for some pretty great damage. At full charge, it also packs a lot of stagger damage, helping to stun opponents after a good combo.
Absolute Counterattack
This is a bit of a trickier Fable Art to make use of, but it provides a great benefit that can integrate seamlessly into the flow of combat if you know how to use it right. You’ll find this Art on Etiquette, a weapon you can get your hands on once you beat the Scrapped Watchman.
Absolute Counterattack is a special kind of guard. When activated, it’ll present the weapon – an umbrella – up as a shield. During the few moments it’s up, any attack that hits it will be perfectly parried. This alone would be useful enough, offering an emergency reprieve in a difficult boss fight. But better yet, once the perfect parry is performed, your following attack gains a major boost to damage. You can even spend an additional Fable Slot to perform an immediate counter for high damage and high stagger, making it a fantastic precision Art to utilise on stubborn bosses and minibosses.
