How to defeat the Spurned Progeny boss
Here are our best tips for beating the Spurned Progeny in Lords of the Fallen.
- Learn the counters to his deadliest moves
- Bring fire resistance consumables
- Use holy damage
- Use ranged attacks
- Set up a Vestige on the bridge
Let’s explain each of these strategies in a little more detail.
Learning counters to Spurned Progeny’s attacks
All bosses have some attacks which are stronger, deadlier, or more complex than others. This is especially true for Spurned Progeny, who boasts some apocalyptic abilities within his moveset. Here’s how to deal with the worst of them.
Summoning a miniature sun
Perhaps his deadliest move of all, this is a guaranteed one shot if it hits you, and he’ll usually begin whipping it out around the halfway point of his health bar once he’s left his first phase of his encounter. His third arm – the one protruding from his mouth – Will begin to manifest a colossal ball of flame. Upon detonation, this massive fireball will erupt in a shockwave across the boss arena, instantly scorching anyone caught in the blast.
Luckily this one isn’t too difficult to deal with once you know the trick. To the left and right of each elevated stone tower you’ll climb up to in the second phase are stone walkways. When the attack starts, head onto one of these walkways, and take cover behind any segment of crumbling wall or decoration. These will guard against the explosion, protecting you from an instant death. Exercise patience and wait for the attack to play out. Afterwards, he’ll take a moment to recover, giving you ample time to reposition and even get off some attacks with ranged weapons.
The floor is lava
To mark the second phase, Spurned Progeny will begin vomiting lava onto the floor, and then keep vomiting it. You can’t out-heal this move or run far enough away to get beyond its reach – it’ll completely consume the floor.
Once you notice the boss doing this, take to any of the flights of stairs around cardinal points of the arena. These lead up to small stone turrets or towers. Hop up to the platforms and you’ll be safely out of range of the lava. Very late into the fight, the lava will then subside, at which point you can continue fighting from the battlements or head back down to ground level to bite at Spurned Progeny’s ankles.
Fire Bomb
Another third hand attack, this move will see Spurned Progeny generate a smaller ball of fire, which will then erupt, showering lava bombs over the area. Given the time this lava tends to linger for and the somewhat unpredictable nature of the rain of bombs, the best strategy for this occasion is to relocate to another tower.
Hand slams, swipes, and jabs
Throughout the fight, and particularly in phase two, Spurned Progeny will attack relentlessly. He’ll slam his hands down, swipe across the arena space, and even come down to eye level to unleash lightning fast strikes with his third arm. You can parry many of these moves, but given the extremely high damage of some, it’s advisable to rely primarily on dodging, as the iframes are generous enough to make most of these attacks easy to avoid.
Bring fire resistance consumables
There’s an awful lot of fire in this fight, as you may have noticed. There is also an abundance of lava. The risk of scorch and ignite proccing during this fight is high, adding a deadly extra layer of risk on top of the immense damage that Spurned Progeny’s attacks deliver.
For this reason, we’d strongly recommend bringing as many fire defence related consumables as you can. Fire Ward, Burn Cure and Burn Resistance Balm are all lifesavers. As long as you know how to heal and when to use these consumables, you should have sufficient survivability to overcome this fight.
As an additional defence, you can always equip some powerful rings to guard against the elements too. Take a look at our suggestions for the best rings in the game if you’re struggling to decide.
Use holy damage
As a servant of Adyr, Spurned Progeny is naturally more vulnerable to the light of Orius, which in gameplay terms is seen through all sources of holy damage and smite buildup. We’d recommend using holy spells, holy weapons, or holy salts to imbue your offensive options with an extra kick. If you’re lacking all of those, smite salts are a good alternative, as long as you’re able to hit consistently to proc the buildup.
Use ranged attacks
If you’re really struggling, be sure to fill up on ammunition pouches and mana stones. From the second phase onwards, moving from tower to tower can be a great way to deal with Spurned Progeny. He’s slow, giving you plenty of opportunity to get in ranged hits while he turns and approaches. This is especially easy if you bait him into an attack with a long animation before running to another tower. Holy or heavy bolts are both good bets here to dish out maximum damage in this fashion. Whether you use this to supplement your overall damage, or rely on it as a full-blown strategy, you’ll take Spurned Progeny down in no time.
Set up a Vestige on the Bridge
Boss runbacks in the land of Mournstead have an unfortunate habit of being a pain in the ass. This is true for the Spurned Progeny fight too, with plenty of Marauders, Burning Corpses, and even an Infernal Enchantress standing between you two.
We’d strongly recommend picking up a Vestige Seed before you get up onto the bridge that leads to the final stretch to his arena. At the back end of this bridge is a Vestige Seedbed. This will make your runback significantly less painful.
What rewards do you get for defeating Spurned Progeny?

- A Remembrance, accessible by interacting with his Stigma.
- Some Umbral Scouring from his Stigma.
- A Giant Eyeball.

Who is Spurned Progeny?
The Spurned Progeny appears to be a cursed infant, born as a Rhogar – a servant of Adyr. Growing to tremendous size, the Progeny’s physical advancement greatly outpaced his mental development, leading to his rise as a deadly Rhogar giant who lacked the capacity to understand his actions or the world around him. We don’t know his exact identity, but it’s clear that there’s a sense of tragedy to the character, as with any good boss.
