The galaxy needs racing, and Star Wars Galactic Racer is here to bring it back. For the first time since 2002’s Star Wars Racer Revenge, the sequel to the 1999 classic Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, Star Wars racing games are back with higher stakes than ever before. Fast-paced sci-fi thrills surely await.
Spearheaded by Lucasfilm Games and Fuse Games, a studio made up of former Need for Speed developers, this reinvention of Star Wars racing aims to fill every race with tantalizing high-speed tension. Here’s our holocron of knowledge containing every detail we know about the upcoming Star Wars Galactic Racer, including platforms, a predicted release window, and trailer analysis.
Predicted Star Wars Galactic Racer release window

The Star Wars Galactic Racer release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the reveal trailer and storefronts show it’s set to release in 2026.
We don’t expect to be taking part in the Galactic League until Q4 2026. However, the typically fast development cycles of Need for Speed games have us hope that Galactic Racer will be released by the end of 2026.
Star Wars Galactic Racer platforms and price predictions

Star Wars Galactic Racer will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Steam. No other platforms have been announced as of yet, but this already covers plenty of ground.
That said, many Star Wars games have made it to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in recent years, so this one could potentially arrive on Nintendo’s primary console in the future.
Although preorders are not yet open, we can safely say that Lucasfilm Games’ involvement and Fuse Games’ AAA studio status will make Star Wars Galactic Racer a AAA game. This would pitch the game around a $60 (£50) price point.
However, any final price would obviously be subject to inflation or any broader changes in industry standard prices, so take our prediction with a pinch of salt.
Star Wars Galactic Racer trailer and gameplay analysis
The first Star Wars Galactic Racer trailer debuted at the 2025 Game Awards. This trailer combines cutscenes with in-engine racing, showing us tight turns, ruthless ramming, and landspeeder explosions from all angles.
The races in the trailer feel like they run on a knife-edge, thanks in large part to the cinematic quality of Star Wars Galactic Racer gameplay, carried over from the iconic Need for Speed racing franchise.
The end of the trailer features Sebulba, a mean-spirited alien who was famously beaten in a podrace by Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace.
Fans of the series will notice the iconic engine roar of Sebulba’s podracer at the end of the trailer. It’s a neat touch, and a clear signal to fans that Fuse Games doesn’t plan to skimp on the details.
A second trailer followed shortly after, aired at the February 2026 PlayStation State of Play. The trailer features a voice-over welcoming a new racer to the Galactic League for an exhibition race. We then have our first proper look at Star Wars Galactic Racer in action.
Environments stream by in a blur, suggesting that speed and pace will be central to how this modern take on podracing feels in the player’s hands. But so will crashes and tussling with other players for position, with the trailer demonstrating how daring maneuvers can result in some nasty-looking pile-ups.
Aside from pods, the trailer also showcases other vehicles in action, including land cruisers, slim motorbike-like speedsters, and other variations of these. Lastly, it gives us a quick teaser reel of race track locations, including the desert of Tatooine or possibly Jakku, a jungle planet, a rocky, volcanic world, an acidic wasteland, and what appears to be the unforgiven ice fields of Hoth.
The trailer wraps up with a quick shot of Sebulba, Skywalker’s famed pod racing revival in The Phantom Menace. Their role in Galactic Racer is unclear, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Sebulba recast as a potential rival again here.
Star Wars Galactic Racer story and setting

The story mode of Star Wars Galactic Racer is set after Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi, when the defeat of the Empire turns the planets of the outer rim into truly lawless lands. We follow Shade, a risk-taking racer who aims to survive an unsanctioned racing circuit called the Galactic League.
Shade’s search for glory will take you to racetracks on iconic Star Wars planets like Jakku and Ando Prime, a perfect nostalgia trip for those who played the original Star Wars racer arcade machines.
