Where I found all the Reanimal coffin locations to get the secret ending

Tracking down all the Reanimal coffin locations took some time and patience, given how well some of them are concealed across the game’s nine chapters. I’ll admit it took me two full playthroughs – one initial one to experience the game blind and then another to unlock the secret ending – and then a few chapter select investigative dives to track down a couple of elusive coffin spots.

In any case, I’ll save you the trouble and walk you through where to find all five Reanimal coffin locations. Finding all the coffins will get you the Friends Reunited trophy and trigger a secret ending that’s well worth experiencing if you’re into Reanimal’s bleak but fascinating lore.

Dead in the Water coffin location

I found the first Reanimal coffin during the Dead in the Water chapter. I pressed on until roughly the chapter’s mid-point, where you use a two-person hand pump car to make it over the railway bridge. Right after reaching the other side of the bridge, I hopped off the pump car and went right, through the train near the edge of the cliff, and out the other end to find a secret area with the coffin.

After the Flood coffin location 1

I came across this one right after picking up the harpoon spears near the start of the After the Flood chapter. I set sail on the boat again, destroying the mine ahead, then turning right, and immediately right again. Just ahead on the left, I destroyed the two mines blocking the path to find an area you can dock. I pushed into the building, lit by a glowing yellow light, and found the coffin at the bottom of the stairs.

After the Flood 2 coffin location 2

This Reanimal coffin location I found once I’d reached the large bay with the cannon island at the center. I circled the island until the cannon was on my left and the lighthouse on my right. I then found an opening in the rocks that led to a small beach where you can dock to see the coffin nestled inside a mine. Just watch out for the enemy in the water on the way.

No Shelter coffin location

I found this one quite deep into the No Shelter chapter in the orphanage. I pressed on until I reached the bottom floor of the room where the children drop the pig, and then your friend, into the hole below. Clear out the kid enemies, then head to the back left of the room to find a door you can open. Past the door is the coffin.

The Spoils coffin location

The fifth and final Reanimal coffin location is really tricky to find unless you know where to look. It’s found during The Spoils. After surviving the trenches and making your way into the underground bunker section with the exploding soldiers. Press on until you get the bolt cutters. Open the bolted door, then make your way through the room with the beds and soldiers that explode. Go through the wall at the back that’s destroyed by one of the soldiers.

Go forward, and when the corridor veers to the right, wait for an explosion, then backtrack towards the wheelchair that appears. You’ll find a new gap in the wall that you can go through. Turn the handle on the bunker cover, and go down the ladder into a missile silo where you’ll find the coffin.

How to unlock the secret ending

I learnt this the hard way, but note that to get the secret ending, you’ll need to find all five coffins during the same playthrough, not separate playthroughs. Simply play through the game, interacting with the coffins as you go to get the secret ending. The Friend Reunited trophy will pop after the short cut scene that follows the credits.
