How to steam the Pristine Crown from the Tonberry King in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
You get the chance to fight the Tonberry King after you find its Fiend Intel location. This is done by finding the Lifesprings around the Corel Region. Once you have found the correct ones, the Heavy Lies the Crown Fiend Intel will appear around the eastern edge of the map.
Once you have this intel available, you can go steal the crown for the J-Squad. Before going here, be sure to equip the Steal Materia to one of your party members. We equipped it to Yuffie but Cloud and Tifa are also good options for the Materia since they are fast on their feet.
Once you reach this area, hold down the triangle button to start the fight just like with the Quetzalcoatl fight. The fight can be rather difficult as many of the Tonberry King’s attacks will result in your characters getting insta-killed unless they have extremely high health like Barret or an item that protects against having your HP drained in one shot. It’s because of this that having a ranged character who can fire projectiles from a distance is important in this fight. We used Yuffie for this but Barret and Aerith are both great distance fighters.
To get the crown to fall, you need to pressure the Tonberry King. This is done by dodging its attacks. When its attacks fail to connect, it becomes pressured. At this point, the Pristine Crown will fall and you can use the Steal ability to snag it before the Tonberry King can grab it.
The Marred Crown
Even if you don’t manage to steal the Pristine Crown from the Tonberry King, you will still get the Marred Crown for defeating it. You can ride on over to Johnny with your Chocobo or buggy and give him the Marred Crown instead and it won’t make a difference with the quest.
With the crown stolen, you just need to finish out the fight to keep it for good. Remember to dodge the king’s attacks, especially the Rancor ability, Chef’s Knife, and its other close-range abilities. You will also need to deal with smaller Tonberries during the fight so be careful. Once the fight is over, you just need to bring the crown to Johnny to finish his quest. You will also get a reward from Chadley for completing the classified intel.
That is everything you need to know about stealing this crown. Be sure to also check out how to complete the Swindling Seminar in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. You can also check out all the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth achievements and trophies.
