Modern Warfare 2 is finally here. But for those who haven’t made up their minds yet, you might be wondering whether the Vault Edition is worth the investment?
If you’re on the fence about whether to get the Vault Edition, it’s worth knowing that Infinity Ward has announced that ALL owners of this edition will now receive Double XP tokens.
“We understand there has been some confusion about an in-game-store exclusive reward for the Vault Edition.” reads the message. “Therefore we’ve decided to reward all players that currently own or purchase any version of the MWII Vault Edition with 10 hours of Double XP Tokens and 10 hours of Double Weapon XP tokens.”
Unsurprisingly, a lot of COD fans are now keen to upgrade their MW2 edition to the Vault version to make the most of the gesture.
We’re here to answer if it’s worth paying the premium for the Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition, or if you should focus on one of the other editions instead.

What’s In The MW2 Vault Edition?
Taking out the Double XP bonuses, which are incredibly alluring for prospective Vault Edition buyers, the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition is a digital-only version of Modern Warfare 2, and contains a ton of goodies, targeting those who play a lot of the multiplayer. It’s pricey, though, coming in at around $99 / £99.
So, what does that get you? Breaking it down and the more than 50 Tier Skips included in the Vault Edition is probably the best selling point, along with the Battle Pass. There’s also the rather fetching Red Team 141 Operator Pack.
Elsewhere, you’ll get both the PS4 and PS5 version of the game, so if you’d like to upgrade when you get a PS5, you’re covered here. This is the full list as per the Call of Duty website:
- Cross Gen Bundle of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
- Includes PS4 and PS5 versions of the game
- Red Team 141 Operator Pack: 4 Operators: Ghost, Soap, Farah and Price
- FJX Cinder – First-Ever Weapon Vault
- Battle Pass (1 Season) + 55 Tier Skips
Is The MW2 Vault Edition Worth It?
This all depends. If you’re not going to spend a lot of time on multiplayer, and you’re one of the few who just play it for the campaign, the MW2 Vault Edition is probably not for you.
However, if you’re a MW2 multiplayer enthusiast, the 55 Tier skips, not to mention the Battle Pass, make the Vault Edition a wise choice, especially with the arrival of Season One.
The cherry on top here is the additional 10 hours worth of Double Weapon / Double XP, which will give you an enormous acceleration boost when it comes to leveling up your weapons.
The real selling point for the Standard Edition across console and PC was access to the beta and early access to the campaign. But now that the game has launched, these benefits are no longer applicable.
Remember, you’re also able to upgrade to Vault Edition at any time on PC (Steam and Battle.net) and PlayStation, should you change your mind. Unfortunately, this option does not look available yet on Xbox. You can read about how to upgrade to the MW2 Vault Edition right here.
