Wondering how to get a Niffler in Hogwarts Legacy? A cross between a platypus and a marsupial, the Niffler is a deceptively cuddly beast in Hogwarts Legacy known for its mischievous ways and love of shiny objects. It’s one of the many magical creatures and fantastic beasts you’ll come across in this faithful homage to the Harry Potter universe.

You’ll invariably need to track down several during your playthrough to keep you stocked in Niffler Fur to fuel gear upgrades at the Enchanted Loom. But finding and capturing them can be a little tricky. We’ll outline the best way to get a Niffler in Hogwarts Legacy. Before setting off to hunt down a Niffler, you’ll want to wrap up the The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom quest, during which Deek, the house elf, will hand over the Nab-Sack, a crucial tool to catch magical beasts around Hogwarts.

How to find a Niffler in Hogwarts Legacy

You’ll find Nifflers at Niffler Dens scattered throughout The Highlands in Hogwarts Legacy. These appear on the map as animal paw icons, but inconveniently, the same symbol is used for all types of animal dens – Unicorn, Puffskein, Jobberknoll, Mooncalf, etc.

Approaching a Niffler using the Disillusionment Spell in Hogwarts Legacy

How to Get a Niffler in Hogwarts Legacy

Head to the den and scope out the area. Before starting the capture process, we recommend equipping a spell set with Accio/Levioso/Arresto Momentum, the Nab-Sack, and the Disillusionment spell.

We recommend using the Disillusionment spell beforehand as an added bit of stealthy cover to avoid scaring off the beasts as you get closer. Once you’re near enough, target a Niffler and cast an immobilizing spell like Accio, Levioso, or Arresto Momentum (or two of them to be safe) to keep them from scampering off. Immediately cast the Nab-Sack spell.

Catching a Niffler with the Nab-Sack in Hogwarts Legacy

Cycle through the three button prompts that appear on the screen (Square on PS5). If done right, you’ll have a cuddly Niffler to either release into your vivariums in the Room of Requirements or sell off at the Brood and Peck in Hogsmeade for 120 Galleons a pop. It’s one of the better ways to make money in Hogwarts Legacy. Rinse and repeat as needed. Once you’ve unlocked the second Vivarium in the Room of Requirement, it’s well worth introducing a few Nifflers so you have a steady source of resources.
