From Expelliarmus to Stupefy, Hogwarts Legacy is stacked with spells to aid in combat and to explore the famed wizarding school and beyond. If you’ve hit a wall and aren’t sure how to solve a particular puzzle or grab certain collectibles, you likely need new spells to progress.

How to Get Spells in Hogwarts Legacy

There are two ways to get spells in the game.

Story Missions, Main Quests, and Side Quests

You’ll unlock various skills as you progress through the Hogwarts Legacy story. Pushing forward with the main story quest is the best way to further expand your catalog of available spells. Here’s a list of missions and classes that include spells:

  • The Path to Hogwarts – Lumos, Protego, Revelio, Stupify, Basic Cast
  • Charms Class – Accio
  • Defense Against the Dark Arts Class – Levioso
  • Welcome to Hogsmeade – Ancient Magic Throw, Ancient Magic
  • Secrets of the Restricted Section – Disillusionment, Petrificus Totalus
  • The Room of Requirement – Evanesco, Conjuring Spell
  • Interior Decorating – Altering Spell
  • In the Shadow of the Undercroft – Confringo
  • The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament – Alohomora
  • In The Shadow of the Study – Crucio
  • In The Shadows of Time – Imperio
  • In The Shadow of the Relic – Avada Kedavra

Assignments

Hogwarts professors will give you what are called Assignments, side quests designed to hone your wizarding skills. As a reward for completing Assignments, you’ll get new spells. Assignments can be tracked under the Quests menu of the Field Guide.

For example, the first assignment – Professor Ronen’s Assignment – where you have to track down two flying pages, rewards you with the Reparo spell. Most include a basic task – such as collecting pages darted in the vicinity of the quest giver – you’ll have to complete.

How Many Spells Are There in Hogwarts Legacy

There are a total of 31 spells in Hogwarts Legacy. These breakdown into seven different types or categories as follows:

  • 4 Control spells – Arresto Momentum, Glacius, Levioso, Transformation
  • 4 Force spells – Accio, Depulso, Descendo, Flipendo
  • 5 Damage spells – Confringo, Diffindo, Expelliarmus, Bombarda, Incendio
  • 4 Utility spells – Disillusionment, Lumos, Reparo, Wingardium Leviosa
  • 3 Transfiguration spells – Conjuring Spell, Altering Spell, Evanesco
