Hogwarts Legacy – How To Upgrade Gear

Hogwarts Legacy features monsters and other challenging enemies in droves, none of which can be defeated unless you have decent gear. Gear in Hogwarts Legacy strengthens your character’s attributes, allowing you to stand your ground when facing off foes twice your size. You’ll want to be constantly seeking out better gear, but also upgrading the higher tier pieces you come across. In this guide, we’ll explain how to upgrade gear in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to Upgrade Gear In Hogwarts Legacy

To upgrade your gear in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll have to make sure that you have collected the right materials from different Beasts for the upgrade you want. Before you can upgrade gear in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need a crafting station called the Enchanted Loom. Here’s how you can get the Enchanted Loom and start working towards upgrading your gear:

1. Push through the story until you complete The Room of Requirement main quest.
2. Then progress until you have completed The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom quest, during which Deek will give you the Conjuring Spell for the Enchanted Loom.

2. After the Enchanted Loom is unlocked, head over to the Room Of Requirements, conjure it and place it. Placing the loom deducts 8 Moonstones from your total allocation. 

Upgrading Gear at the Enchanted Loom

To craft gear in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to collect the required materials for the upgrade from either tending to beasts in the vivarium or by buying them from the Brood and Peck in Hogsmeade. Once that’s done, the next part is pretty straightforward: 

1. Head over to the Room Of Requirements and interact with the Enchanted Loom.
2. Hover over/select the gear you want to upgrade.
3. Press ▢ or X (or PC equivalent) to upgrade.
4. Hold Upgrade Gear to finalize the upgrade.

You can also use the Identification Station in the Room of Requirement to help you find out the existing stats and talents of your gear by inspecting it. Anyhow, keep in mind that each gear can be upgraded three times, making it Super, Extraordinary, and then Legendary.

Adding Traits To Your Gear

Besides the upgrades, you can get the best out of your gear by adding Traits to them via your Enchanted Loom. These add offensive and defensive buffs to the gear when it’s equipped. Here’s how to add Traits to your existing gear: 

1. Go to the Room Of Requirements and interact with the Enchanted Loom.
2. Hover over/select the gear you want to add a Trait to.
3. Press △ or Y (or PC equivalent) to View Traits.
4. Hover over/select the Trait you want from the list of Discovered Traits on the left.
5. Hold A or X (or PC equivalent) to Weave Trait.
