It hasn’t always been an easy task to bring in a top young CB, but thankfully there is a dearth of them in FC 24 Career Mode. These guys could easily go on to become one of, if not the, best defenders in the game, possessing meta attributes all managers are after. 

We are classing the best young players as anyone who is 23 years old or younger at the start of your FC 24 Career Mode save and are including anyone with a base position of CB. 

Matthijs de Ligt – 84 Overall

Once again, Matthijs de Ligt is still one of the best young CBs to sign in Career Mode, despite a slight downgrade in a squad update. Still only 23, he has moved from Ajax to Juventus, to Bayern Munich, learning his trade from some of the best around. A leader at the back with incredible strength, very few attackers will be able to push him off the ball. 

William Saliba – 84 Overall

If Arsenal plan on another title challenge then William Saliba will need to stay fit throughout the season. The towering Frenchman fits the bill of a meta CB, which will see him widely used in Ultimate Team too. Fast, strong, defensively sound, with decent ball control and passing abilities, what more could you want? 

Sven Botman – 83 Overall

Sven Botman has been an inspired signing for Newcastle United and will be an essential component for another successful season. He goes about his work almost unnoticed, which makes him very effective. Strong and solid at the back, if you want a no-nonsense CB he could be the one for you. 

Josko Gvardiol – 82 Overall

Josko Gvardiol’s star has been growing for a couple of years now, with a fantastic World Cup campaign showing off his capabilities to a wider audience. He was Pep Guadiola’s main transfer target during the summer, and now Manchester City have their man, he looks like a perfect fit for them. Pacey and strong, he is aggressive at winning the ball back and comfortable with the ball at his feet to play out from defence. 

Nico Schlotterbeck – 82 Overall

Borussia Dortmund may have missed out on the Bundesliga title last season, but they have the players in their squad to keep challenging over the years. Nico Schlotterbeck is one of those, another CB who is quick, strong, good on the ball, and, most importantly, very capable at his defensive duties.
