We’re taking a look at the best meta players in FC 24 Ultimate Team to help you assemble a top squad! Here, overall ratings don’t matter, it’s about what these guys can do on the pitch.  

The FC 24 release date is nearly here, with people already getting on FUT with FC 24 early access or via the FC 24 Web App and Companion App. Check out our guide to the best meta players for every position in FC 24 Ultimate Team. 

What is a Meta Rating in FC 24? 

We have teamed up with EasySBC to bring you the best Ultimate Team players, based on a Meta Rating. The Meta Rating has been created to show how good cards perform in-game, rather than judging them on their overall rating. This is determined by looking at key stats for positions and the player role, then scored from 1 to 99.9. Preferred chemistry styles are also shown to achieve the Meta Rating. 

You may notice that some of these lists contain players who are out of position and who may not be able to start in the position we’ve listed. Remember, this is all based on the Meta Rating algorithm assessing the numbers behind the card. Switching formation in-game is the best way to get these cards on full chemistry while also occupying unfamiliar positions. 

We have split the positions into two lists, one of regular players and the other of Icons and FUT Heroes. 

FC 24 Best Meta GK

It’s the usual suspects featuring as the best meta goalkeepers in FC 24, with players representing the five top leagues. Each of them has a Meta Rating that outperforms their actual overall, which is why they all come at a premium price in FUT 24.

FC 24 Best Meta LB (Defensive)

Real Madrid is home to most of the best meta left-backs in FC 24, although the man at the top of the list may take you by surprise. After a huge ratings upgrade, Federico Valverde has become perhaps the most-meta player in FUT 24. A total all-rounder, this isn’t the only list you will see him popping up on out-of-position.

FC 24 Best Meta LB (Attacking)

Despite losing Lionel Messi to the MLS and Neymar to the Saudi Pro League, PSG is still a formidable force in FUT 24. This is thanks to the influx of women’s players in Ultimate Team, with top talents added at both ends of the field. With two of the best meta attacking left-backs in the game, PSG Feminine is a great team to pick up players from.

FC 24 Best Meta CB 

“A strong and quick defensive player that can body opponents but can also keep up with fast strikers.”

As the best-rated center-back in the game, it’s unsurprising to see Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk occupy the top spot for best meta CB. He has all the attributes needed to bully attackers off the ball. AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori is also worth a mention, as his Meta Rating far outperforms his actual overall, thanks mainly to his top pace stats.

Meta right-backs look to be hard to find in FC 24 Ultimate Team, with Manchester City man Kyle Walker the only player who actually occupies that position on this list. However, playing a left-footed player at RB feels sickening, so we don’t expect to see many people using Ferland Mendy or Fridolina Rolfo there!

If you’re after an attacking right-back, then it looks like you will need to turn to players from alternate positions to fill the spot! This seems rather surprising, with Achraf Hakimi, Marcos Llorente, and Jeremie Frimpong all absent from the list. Portland Thorns’ versatile CAM Crystal Dunn makes an appearance, and she could be a great addition to your team if you can get her on decent chemistry!

FC 24 Best Meta CDM (Powerful) 

“A tall and strong player that can win the ball from anyone in a defensive duel and can also take part of the build-up play.”

Once again, Federico Valverde is the man to turn to in this position! It is surprising to see Virgil van Dijk turn up so high on the list, however, from there it is pretty standard. Newcastle United’s new boy Sandro Tonali is another player worth investing in given his versatility. Borussia Dortmund beast Emre Can is a slightly more budget option, although he isn’t insanely cheap.

Again, a center-back pops up as a midfield option, with Mapi Leon taking the top spot as one of Barcelona Femeni’s premium players. We want to highlight Crystal Dunn once again, who looks set to become a FUT fan favourite! If you can get her for a decent price, she is definitely worth the investment.

Familiar faces Federico Valverde and Crystal Dunn pop up once again, but then it is Barcelona Femeni you need to turn to! The women’s side has come in and taken Ultimate Team by storm, providing plenty of meta players. Their Spanish midfield is particularly formidable, with Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati two of the best in the game.

A slightly different attacking threat, a target forward can cause havoc for an opponent that isn’t ready for them. As well as being a physical threat, pace is key, which is why Erling Haaland has a much higher Meta Rating than others on the list. Leon Goretzka as a striker is a turn-up for the books! But, if you want a cheap beast, then look no further than Romelu Lukaku.
