The vampiric Lord Zir is one of the end-game bosses that you can summon in Diablo 4. These bosses take some legwork to gather the materials to summon them, after which you can expect a nasty boss fight. Lord Zir brings a bloody brand of abilities that you will have to face before reaping the rewards. Here’s everything you need to know, including his location, how to summon and beat him, and what you can get.

Lord Zir Diablo 4 boss location

Lord Zir is located in The Darkened Way, which can be found east from the hub city of Kyovashad in Fractured Peaks. It might not have the same icon as other dungeons, but don’t let that fool you. This location is accessible in World Tier 4 and you will need to fight your way to the altar to summon Lord Zir before fighting him.

How to get Exquisite Blood

You will need to gather a unique resource to summon Lord Zir, called Exquisite Blood. This material drops from a few sources. Completing Legion Events out in the world has a chance to grant you 1 Exquisite Blood. Meanwhile, beating World Bosses can net you 3 Exquisite Blood per kill. You will need a total of 9 Exquisite Blood to summon Lord Zir once, so if you plan on multiple boss fights, be prepared to farm for a while.

How to beat Lord Zir

After beating the enemies in The Dark Passage on your way to the boss and summoning him by donating blood on the altar, the true boss fight begins. Lord Zir is a Level 80 boss that predominately deals Fire damage. For that reason, make sure to spruce up your fire resistance with gems or pop a Potent Elixir of Fire Resistance potion to help you survive. Lord Zir fights with a combination of his own abilities, minion summons, and environmental hazards. You will have to pay attention to all of them to win the fight. He doesn’t have phases, so we’ll go through Lord Zir’s abilities first:

  • Blood Rain: The boss flaps his wings to release blood rain on the arena. Dodge the projectiles and stay away from the blood pools they form – these can interact with his other abilities.
  • Blood Talons: The boss scythes in an arc in front of him. Watch for his stance change and avoid this attack – it can hit like a truck!
  • Wing Blast: The boss gets this ability at 66% health. It allows him to teleport away and charge up a wing attack that damages and knocks you back. Watch the ground before he locks onto you, then dodge away to avoid the attack.

This might seem like a simple boss fight, but the real danger lies in the other aspects Lord Zir brings, namely his minions and arena effects. Here’s what you have to pay attention to:

  • Summoned Adds: When the boss gets to 80% health, he will start summoning Blood Seekers to harass you. Deal with them as quickly as you can. They can proc your on-kill effects, so you can use them for extra damage against the boss.
  • Blood Orbs: When the boss takes damage, he can form blood orbs. These can do a couple of things. They can summon more adds in the form of Vampire Bats and Vampire Mages. Or, they can send out waves of blood against you.
  • Blood Pools: The previously mentioned blood pools can move around the arena of their own accord. They can merge together which makes them send out projectiles that make you Vulnerable if they hit.
  • Empowered Blood Rain: After the boss drops to below 60% health, his wing flaps cause the blood pools to send out projectiles as above. These can also make you Vulnerable, so make sure to avoid them.

Tormented Lord Zir version

There is a stronger version of Lord Zir, called the Tormented version and is part of the Diablo 4 Boss Ladder system. The abilities are the same, but Blood Talons now have a stacking debuff, making them far deadlier. To summon this version you’ll need to get a Stygian Stone, as well as three times the usual summoning materials. Beating the Tormented version nets you greater rewards, at a rate of five times the normal loot.
