Diablo 4 Capstone Dungeon: The location of the Fallen Temple on a map of Sanctuary.

What is a Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4 Season 2?

Capstone Dungeons are giant dungeons in Diablo 4 Season 2 that the player can take on once you’ve reached the endgame. This means you have to complete the campaign before you can unlock them. Secondly, to unlock your first Capstone Dungeon, you’ll need to be playing on World Tier 2.

From here, you’ll be able to take on one of the two currently available Capstone Dungeons. The first of these is the Cathedral of Light, located in the northwest corner of the Cathedral in Kyovashad. The second is the Fallen Temple, found in the far east of the Dry Steppes. Inside, they function like normal dungeons, requiring you to kill monsters, complete objectives, and then defeat a final boss, but are more challenging than your average dungeon.

While you’ll still collect all the usual loot you would get from typical dungeons, the main reason you’ll want to complete a Capstone Dungeon is to unlock higher World Tier levels. Completing your first Capstone Dungeon unlocks World Tier 3, which grants you 100% increased XP and 15% more gold when killing monsters. It also allows Sacred and Ancestral gear drops, Unique items rewards, as well as letting Helltides occur. If you’re planning on playing through the post-game, increasing your World Tiers will be incredibly important. This ties in well with Season 2’s enhanced gold drop rates and improved XP scaling. This means it won’t take as long to reach these Capstone Dungeon arenas.

Nightmare difficulty also unlocks endgame content like Nightmare Dungeons, variations of specific dungeons with extra modifiers. Face new waves of lethal enemies from the world of Sanctuary that soak most damage like sponges. It also unlocks the PvP mode that lets you purchase gear with new resources tied to fighting players. Your gear will also reach new heights thanks to frequent Legendary gear drops and the chance of Uniques.

How to finish the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4 Season 2

Clearly, the Cathedral of Light Capstone dungeon, its hordes of Revenant Knights, and its Curator boss won’t be simple to beat. Your first task will be collecting Animus from Revenant Knights. The game throws the High Council, four tough bosses, at you at once before the final one. They have unique abilities and traits:

  1. Sacred Physician: A priest that casts area attacks and buffs the other High Council members.
  2. Grand Inquisitor: A lethal spellcaster that fights you at range.
  3. Lord Commander: A Revenant Knight with a high amount of health.
  4. Devoted Champion: A pike-wielding knight that charges at you.

Once you clear the High Council, finish the Diablo 4 Capstone Dungeon by slaying the Curator. Before that, you’ll need to kill all the enemies in the Reliquary of Erudition. As for the Curator, they tend to throw bone walls to trap you before exploding them. They can also summon whirlwinds and skeletal warriors to aid them in combat. Weave through the bone walls and stick to defensive tactics in order to make it out alive.

Diablo 4 Capstone Dungeon: A player fights Elias, the final boss of the Fallen Temple Capstone Dungeon in the game.

How to finish the Fallen Temple Capstone Dungeon in Diablo 4 Season 2

To reach World Tier 4 difficulty, you need to beat the Fallen Temple Capstone Dungeon. I’d suggest playing it when you clear level 70. When you show up at the dungeon, you’ll get to pick between two paths: The Sigil of the Weak and the Sigil of the Indolent. You’ll have to do them both anyway.

How to Complete Sigil of the Indolent

Here’s how to finish Sigil of the Indolent in Diablo 4 Season 2:

  • Keep going forward and watch out for exploding Fallen Lunatics.
  • You’ll find a barrier that will be dispelled once you defeat the enemies around it.
  • You’ll then be trapped in a room with an Idol of the Fallen Temple that needs to be destroyed.
  • You should also kill the Shaman on the opposite side of the room. Beat the Idol to spawn the Tainted Fallen Overseer.
  • Evade their toxic pools and defeat them. Once you kill them, you’ll be able to pick up a stone where the Idol was located.
  • Place it on the pedestal to complete Sigil of the Indolent.

How to Complete Sigil of the Weak

Here’s how to beat Sigil of the Weak in Diablo 4 Season 2:

  • Keep going forward and watch out for Overseers, Crushers, and Punishers.
  • Interact with the Demonic barrier to begin the “Survive the Trial of the Weak”.
  • Keep clearing waves of enemies until the final Fiery Fallen Overlord arrives.
  • Defeat the elite enemy and a bloodstone will show up where the Demonic Barrier was.
  • Take it back to the pedestal to complete Sigil of the Weak.

Clearing both of these will take you to the Cathedral of Flesh.

How to Complete the Cathedral of Flesh

Here are the objectives needed to finish the Cathedral of Flesh in Diablo 4:

  • Kill an Animus collector
  • Harvest the purple Animus
  • Deposit it in the relic

Note that you’ll encounter plenty of tough enemies along this route. Draven and Chaol are two mini-bosses that you need to watch out for as you approach the relic. Once this is done, you can take on the final boss. Elias, Hatred’s Remnant, is a powerful foe. Evade his fire magic, mobs, and poison attacks. These include a ring of fire, three purple orbs, ritual circles, and a poisonous summoning pool. His attacks have pretty long range so stock up on extra Diablo 4 healing potion charges in advance.

Take Elias out and you’ll be able to move to World Tier 4. This finally lets you access Ancestral gear. While the Capstone Dungeons are both major challenges to overcome, there is one big tip that can help you get through them more easily. Both Dungeons have a level cap. The Cathedral of Light has a level cap of 50, while the Fallen Temple has a level cap of 70.

Where typical dungeons will scale their level with yours, these will always stay at their level caps, meaning you can over-level them to make them much easier. Aside from this, just make sure you’ve got a good build and make good use of elixirs to power up and you should be alright.
