In Starfield, Scavenging is a skill in the Social category. By levelling up this skill, players will improve their chances of finding extra items in containers in the world. As a Novice-tier skill, it is available from the beginning of the game, though later ranks are locked behind challenges.
Scavenging skill ranks

| Rank 1 | Players will have a chance of finding extra credits in containers. | Loot 25 containers. |
| Rank 2 | Players will have a chance of finding extra ammo in containers. | Loot 75 containers. |
| Rank 3 | Players will have a chance of finding extra aid items, like med packs, in containers. | Loot 150 containers. |
