The latest Sons Of The Forest update is here, introducing several new features to the game, including the ability to craft the water collector, or as it’s known in-game, the rain catcher. While you can make do with drinking at streams or topping up the 3D-printed flask to keep your thirst in check, a steady source of water is a must-have for anyone serious about setting up a permanent base with all the amenities a demon-infested island has to offer.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the water collector recipe and how to craft the water collector in Sons Of The Forest.

Rain Catcher Recipe
To craft the water collector in Sons Of The Forest, you’ll need the following materials:
- x 16 Sticks
- x1 Turtle Shell
You’ll find sticks on the ground across the island – on beaches, in forests, even up in the mountains, so it should be no trouble collecting them. Alternatively, you can ask Kelvin to gather sticks for you. He’s one hell of a gatherer.
As for the turtle shell, you’ll need to find and kill a turtle, then use your knife to detach the shell from the animal’s innards. Turtles hang about near short lines and larger inland bodies of water, with a popular spot on the beach just north of the Rebreather cave in the north of the island. It’s not far from the beach spawn point.
