How to Drop Items in Sons of the Forest

Tap the G button on your keyboard to drop an item in Sons Of The Forest. However, this only applies to large items you can’t stow away in your inventory, such as logs and planks. If the item fits in your inventory (stones, sticks, tape, food, meds, ammo, flares, blueberries, and whatnot), then tapping G unequips the item. Or worded differently, it puts the item back into your inventory rather than tossing it away or dropping it on the ground.

While holding a large item, like a log, you can also aim at the ground to bring up a set of instructions how and where the item is dropped on the ground. It allows you to rotate the item, place it lying down or upright, and so on.

Removing an item from your inventory is more involved and is more a workaround than a defined and purposeful mechanics. There’s, unfortunately, no simple command or button you can tap to drop an item.

How To Remove items from Your Inventory

There are several ways you can effectively ‘drop’ inventory items in Sons Of The Forest. The first is to use the item in crafting or construction. The second, and this only applies to consumables like food and drinks, is to eat or drink the item.

Lastly, you can remove items from your inventory in Sons Of The Forest by storing them on a storage rack. For example, you can build the Stick Storage rack, approach it, and tap the C button to transfer a stick (or several) from your inventory to the rack. The same applies to Rock Storage and Bone Storage. You can also place items on a Shelf and Wall Shelf to remove them from your inventory.

If you’re playing multiplayer with friends, you can also share items. Approach a player and tap the E button, then select the item you want to share from your inventory.

As you can see, there’s no proper way to drop items in Sons Of The Forest except for bulky items. The logic here is likely a combination of ensuring players have all the resources they need at their disposal at all times and, from a technical standpoint, avoiding the nightmare of tracking dropped items all over the map.
