While the lighter will get you through your first cave visits in Sons Of The Forest, nothing beats the flashlight to keep track of the many menaces lurking in the darkness.
As with most items in Sons Of The Forest, there’s not much to go on when you crash land on the island, and it’s entirely possible to play through Sons Of The Forest without stumbling upon the flashlight. But no one wants that – every little helps in such an inhospitable environment.
In this guide, we’ll outline how to get the flashlight in Sons Of The Forest.

How to Get the Flashlight in Sons Of The Forest
The flashlight can be found on a body hanging from a cliff located in the central part of the map, west of the snow-capped mountain range that cuts through the center of the island. To find the flashlight in Sons Of The Forest, you’ll need to investigate a purple marker on your GPS tracker, as seen in the image above.
Trek over to the location and pull out your GPS Tracker, which will emit a beeping sound that intensifies as you get closer. You’re looking for a sheer cliff with a body hanging down from a rope. You’ll need to cut the rope to get to any loot it’s carrying.
Head to the top of the cliff by heading either left or right. Walk along the edge of the cliff until you spot a rope tied to a large rock. There’s usually some loot scattered near the rock too that’s worth picking up.
Pull out your axe and hack the rope. Doing so releases the body and drops it to the ground below the cliff. Head down from the ridge and approach the body. Next to it on the ground will be the flashlight. Tap the E button to pick it up.
How to Use the Flashlight
Like the axe, the flashlight is a fixed tool in Sons Of The Forest, meaning you can’t lose or accidentally chuck it. To use the flashlight, either tap L on your keyboard or equip it via the inventory.
While you’re here, loot the corpse to get a GPS locator to mark locations of interest or even give it to Virginia to track her movements once you’ve tamed her. The flashlight runs on batteries found in camps, crates, containers, bunkers, and caves.
