How to Get Water in Sons Of The Forest

There are four ways to get water in Sons Of The Forest:

  • Drink at a stream or river
  • Drink looted drinks
  • Eat certain plants
  • Drink from the flask

Drink From a River or Stream to Get Water in Sons Of The Forest

Sons Of The Forest - drinking water from river

The easiest and most consistent way to get water in Sons Of The Forest is to find a river or stream with fresh running water, then approach the water, look down, and tap the E button when prompted. Remember to unequip any items you’re holding if the prompt isn’t showing. You can use the GPS Tracker to find a river if you’re not near one – they appear as blue weaving lines on the map. They are scattered fairly evenly throughout the island, so they shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Energy Drinks

As you explore the island, you’ll come across abandoned camps, often with a haul of resources for you to loot. Occasionally, this includes Energy Drinks. They ward off dehydration in a pinch but don’t quench thirst as effectively as water.

Hydrating Plants

The next best way to get water in Sons Of The Forest is to find and eat plants that help with dehydration. The three main plants to look for are Salmonberries, Yarrow, and Arrowleaf. Prioritize Yarrow as it offers the biggest bump to thirst compared to the others. It has distinctive white petals and tends to grow near water.

3D Printed Flask – Portable Water Source in Sons Of The Forest

The best early-game solution for getting water is to track down the 3D printer as soon as possible and make a Flask. You can refill it at streams, giving you a portable water source to take on the go as you explore. If you’ve yet to find the 3D printer, we’ve bundled everything you need to know into our dedicated guide.
