Many different Pokemon have come and gone, but none have been quite as unique and different as the copycat purple blob Pokemon Ditto, which has the ability to transform into any Pokemon it wants.

Although Zorua, and in some iterations, Mew also have the ability to transform, when someone says copycat Pokemon, Ditto is usually the first to come to mind. Don’t even get us started on all the theories that used to plague the internet about how Dittos are failed attempts at cloning Mew.

If you want to add a Ditto to your party, then you’re gonna have to be ready to do some serious searching, as it isn’t at all easy.

How to Catch Ditto
As mentioned above, catching a Ditto is not at all easy. The reason for this is that wild Dittos transform into other wild Pokemon in order to avoid getting caught by trainers looking for a good breeding partner for their Pokemon.

Fortunately, we’ve been able to narrow down two places where Dittos usually spawn, which are West Province’s Areas Two and Three. However, both these areas have a bunch of wild Pokemon, only some of which will be Ditto.
First Method To Get Ditto
Now, there are two ways to see if you’ve come across a Ditto. The first is to battle every single wild Pokemon you come across in these two areas. At the start of a battle, a Ditto will transform back into its usual purple slimy self, so if you initiate an encounter with a wild Pokemon and it doesn’t transform, then you can simply flee from the battle and try again.

Second Method To Get Ditto
The other lesser known method, however, is much quicker even if it requires some more work. By pressing the ZL button, and then using the right stick to lock on to a Pokemon, you can see the Pokemon’s name usually. However, if it’s a transformed Pokemon, then the name will come as three question marks. So if you aren’t able to see the Pokemon’s name, then that’s your sign to initiate the battle.

Wild Ditto Tip
One major tip we can give you is that when a wild Ditto has transformed itself into a different Pokemon, it won’t ever react when you come near it. Some Pokemon flee from you, while others are aggressive toward you, but Ditto won’t ever do anything.

Therefore, if you see a Pokemon that usually either runs away or towards you just sitting there minding their own business, then that’s your sign to throw a Pokeball at their face.
How To Get 6IV Ditto in Scarlet and Violet
Another way of getting Ditto is by unlocking and then completing a 6 star Tera Raid Battle Event against a Ditto. Unlocking the 6 star Tera Raids is a chore in itself, but when you do it, you’re able to face off against and capture some insanely strong Pokemon.
The best thing about Tera Raids is that you can complete them with up to three of your friends, making the event not only easier but also more fun. When you find a 6IV Ditto, you’ll have to defeat it in under the time limit given, after which you’ll be able to catch it.

How to Trade Ditto
The final way of getting a Ditto is trading it from a friend or another player who’s looking to get rid of theirs. To do this, you first have to at least reach the first Pokemon Center in Los Platos.

When you do that, press the X button to bring up the in game menu, and then navigate to the Poke Portal. Use the L button to toggle between either internet or local connection, then select link trade.
Now, you and your friend have to select ‘link code’ and put in the same 8 digit code click on begin searching. When the connection has been made, select the Pokemon you each want to put up for trade, and then confirm.

Final Thoughts
While these were the only three ways you could get a Ditto without already having one in your party, if you already have one and want to find more, then you can easily do so by breeding it with another Pokemon to get a Ditto egg.
Ditto is a really fun to use Pokemon, and although it had been forgotten in recent games, it’s cool to see Pokemon Scarlet and Violet give players a chance to catch it again.
