Where to Find All Hel Tears in God of War Ragnarok

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the location of all the Hel Tears needed to complete the Hel to Pay Favor in God of War Ragnarok. After an eventful visit to Helheim during the Unleashing Hel quest, Atreus unwittingly unleashes Garm, a towering hound capable of creating dimensional tears between the realms. Left unchecked, these allow Hel Walkers to spew out into other realms.

There are a total of five Hel Tears (six if you count the first tear next to Sindri’s House that kick starts the Favor) to close in God of War Ragnarok scattered across Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, Alfheim, Helheim, and Midgard.

At this point, it’s worth noting that there are spoiler below, so we recommend pushing ahead with the story and spending some time in each realm before reading on.

God of War Ragnarok Hel Tears Locations

Svartalfheim Hel Tear

• Location: Aurvangar Wetlands of Svartalfheim

After freeing Garm in Helheim in the Unleashing Hel main path mission and completing the Reunion quest, return to the Aurvangar Wetlands as Kratos. Dock at the second beach up from the mystic gateway and take a left up the scaffold near the geyser and waterwheel puzzle. Drop down and across the gap is a tear. Defeating all the enemies and closing the tear grants a Frozen Flame.

Alfheim Hel Tear

• Location: The Strond, Alfheim

Head to The Strond mystic gateway. Take the right path and drop down the ledge to find a tear.

Vanaheim Hel Tear

• Location: The Southern Wilds of Vanaheim

After freeing Garm in Helheim, return to The Southern Wilds mystic gate. The Vanaheim tear is a short jog ahead from the gateway.

Midgard Hel Tear

• Location: Well of Urd, Midgard

After releasing Garm in Helheim, return to the Well of Urd. About halfway up the climb and after you squeeze through the gap in the ice, you’ll find a tear.

Helheim Hel Tear

• Location: The Gleaming Bale, Helheim

Head straight from the Helheim mystic gateway. Spear the ice wall on the right, then climb across and down. Spear and detonate the weak spots in the ice on your right, and climb up. At the top, go through the crawl space on the right to reach The Gleaming Bale. The tear is just ahead.
