God of War Ragnarok –  Reunion Walkthrough

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the Reunion main path mission in God of War Ragnarok. Our favorite father and son duo head to Helheim to clean Atreus’ dog-shaped mess.

Conscious of preserving the experience for players, we’re keeping spoilers and major story elements to a minimum, but for the purpose of explaining how to progress through The Reckoning, to solve puzzles, and the like, there are a few in there. Tread carefully from here on if you don’t want anything spoiled.

To help make the most of your visit to Helheim, we’ve also included all the ravens, lore, Hel Tears and so on you can grab as you make your way through. You save some hassle if you want to get Helheim to 100% completion later on.

God of War Ragnarok – Reunion Walkthrough

Approach Ratatoskr

Approach the portal and Ratatoskr with unlock realm travel to Helheim.

Find Garm in Helheim

Go through the mystic gateway and reach the Helgrind region of Helheim. Head straight, loot the red coffin down on a ledge on the right, and take down one of Odin’s Ravens circling above.

Spear and detonate the weak point on the rock ahead, then climb across and down. 

Fight the Hel-Walkers then climb to the top of the large rock ahead to get the Prayer to Hraesvelgr Rune Read.

Spear the three weak points and detonate to clear the ice. Take out the Hel-Walkers that spawn then climb up.

Loot the chest on the right then go through the crawl space to emerge into The Gleaming Bale region of Helheim. There’s a Hel Tear just ahead – fight off the Hel-Walkers while Atreus closes the rift. Close the rift and you’ll pick up the Grip of Healing Harmony axe attachment and a Frozen Spark.

Climb across the broken bridge. Note the wheel on the left. Chain sigils from the gear to the left, then pull up the gate and throw the axe at the leftmost sigil to create a frost chain reaction and freeze the gear. Go through and continue forward until you spot Garm. 

Pursue Garm

Fight off the Hel-Walkers then Atreus will point out a gushing wind point you can throw your spear at to get across the gap. Drop down the ledge on the right and walk forward to get a better angle on the wind and throw a spear.

Go across the gap and loot the Legendary chest on the left of the walkway. It has the Tame the Beast heavy runic attack inside.

Press forward to the end of the walkway, then boost Atreus, who’ll kick the shield to allow you to grapple up.

At the top, you’ll get another glimpse of Garm. Kill the Hel-Walkers and squeeze through the gap in the rocks on the right.

Drop down, loot the chest, and grapple across the gap ahead. 

Fight off the Raiders then jump left to enter the Shipyard of the Fallen and initiate a fight against a Traveler. Beat them to get the Boon of Wrath amulet enchantment and a Frozen Flame.

To get through the gate, stack sigil arrows from top to bottom on the wood poking out on the right. Pull the wheel then fire the axe at the top sigil to freeze the gear.

Go through and push forward to fight another group of Raiders. Throw a spear at the wind notch and jump across – you’ll need to take the right hand path around the ice to get the right angle.

Loot the Legendary chest for the Thrust of a Thousand Soldiers light runic attack. Shimmy along the ledge and jump down. Fight the Raiders ahead and continue forward to meet Garm once again. Freeze the chain then pull on it. Garm runs off.

Walk ahead and open the large door. Fight off the Hel-Walkers and jump across the gap. Loot the chest on the right. Next, you’ll need to throw a spear at a wind notch – to get the right angle, walk to the back of the area and destroy the crate and pots in the way.

Climb up and fight the Nightmares, Hag, and Hel-Walkers, then climb up the ledge to reach The Silent Clearing region. Grapple to the point in the rock above and across to initiate a fight with Garm.

The key to winning is freezing the chains when prompted by Atreus, then pulling them to immobilize Garm momentarily and unleashing everything you’ve got – runic attacks, rage, etc. – in the small window. Rinse and repeat, while dodging attacks, to get the better of Garm.

Leave Helheim – God of War Ragnarok Reunion

Follow the path ahead, looting a normal chest as you go until you reach another locked door. Loot the Legendary chest on the right to get the Onslaught Shield.

To open the gate, pull the wheel all the way, then shoot a sigil at the block of rock peeking through the gold-colored grating. Stack the sigil so that it reaches the gear. Throw the axe at the sigil to freeze the gear. Interact with the stone door ahead. This will trigger a chase sequence – Garm’s back.

The path forward is linear. When Garm blocks your path, shoot the spear at his legs then detonate. Continue forward until another arena fight with Garm. Plant the spear in the flashing weak points and detonate to lower his health. For the second phase, repeat, and when he falls, run up and press R3 and Atreus will jump on to his back. At this point, Garm runs off.

Keep Pursuing Garm

Crawl through the gap in the door ahead and jump down the ledge ahead. Follow the path, climbing to reach Garm whimpering beneath some rubble.

Return to the Mystic Gateway – God of War Ragnarok Reunion

With the Garm problem dealt with, head right and shoot a spear at the wind notch mid-way up the large stone slab then grapple up to Atreus.

Head right and across the gap using the spear to find a Soulblossom, needed for the Nine Realms in Bloom Favor.

Cross the gap and drop down on the right. Turn the wheel all the way. Shoot and stack a sigil just below the grating so that it reaches the gear. Shoot the sigil with the axe to freeze the gear.

Rush to get through the door before the gear thaws. Straight ahead is the Hraesvelgr Lore Marker. Above it is another of Odin’s Ravens.

You can take a right here and have a chat with Hraesvelgr, or go left to return to the mystic gateway.
