Not sure how to get to the third shrine in Tears of the Kingdom? Once you’ve acquired both the Ultrahand and Fuse abilities on the Great Sky Island above Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda TotK, your next goal will be reaching the third shrine so you can learn Ascend. The problem is, it’s a much longer journey from the second shrine to the third, so it’s easy to lose your way.

The third shrine itself – called the Gutanbac Shrine – isn’t as difficult as the Ukuoh or In-Isa Shrines, but actually reaching the entrance is a pain. Especially since you don’t have all of the Tears of the Kingdom abilities yet, because you must reach these shrines to get them in Totk tutorial area. So it’s somewhat of a catch-22. Here’s the lowdown on how to reach the third shrine in Tears of the Kingdom.

How to reach the third shrine in Tears of the Kingdom

As soon as you finish the second shrine, head down the stairs, kill the Soldier Construct, then walk down the path. You’ll find some Soldier Constructs fighting some Chuchus – head past them and enter Pondside Cave. Make your way through, killing the Bubbulfrog and looting the Tears of the Kingdom Archaic Tunic from the chest.

When you leave, make a raft out of the logs and power it with a fan. Stick it on the water with Ultrahand ability and hit the fan to power yourself to the other side of the lake. Climb up the big hill, then at the top you’ll enter the Mining Cave. Throw some Brightbloom Seeds down to light the way and you’ll eventually reach the Forge Construct, where you can mine some Zonaite and trade it for Zonai Charges and Crystallised Charges.

Stick a fan on the back of a minecart with Ultrahand, then place it on the rails to leave the Mining Cave. At the top of the track is Rauru. Play around with the Device Dispenser if you like, then take a left from where Rauru is and enter the Pit Cave. You’ll need to know how to keep warm in Tears of the Kingdom next, so we’d recommend using the pot to cook some individual Spicy Peppers here, as the cold resistance will come in handy.

Head up through the cave and you’ll exit into a snowy region – eat one of your cooked peppers to stay warm, then follow the path, killing Soldier Constructs along the way. At the end of the path, you’ll enter the Bottomless Cave – be careful to not fall through the hole in the middle.

As you climb to the top, you’ll fight against two Like Likes. These seem tough, but our recommendation is to use an elemental arrow with an explosion – a Fire Fruit, for example – to make it expose its weak spot, then hit the pulsating red part with a standard arrow. This will stun it for a while, so you can go to town on it with melee attacks. Killing each of these will net you a chest.

When you leave the cave, you’re in another snowy environment, but don’t go any further than the exit doorway. Beyond here, you won’t be able to climb any walls because they’re covered in ice, but you can climb the huge tree roots that surround the doorway to the cave. Just make sure to rest and recover stamina wherever it’s flat. When you’re at the top, you’ll be right next to the Tears of the Kingdom Gutanbac Shrine.
