Wanting to know more about Starfield enemies? With thousands of planets, it’s no surprise that there are a huge number of foes for you to take on during your travels across the galaxy. Whether you’re fighting off hostile wildlife when exploring a planet, or defending yourself from nasty space pirates, you’ll certainly be kept busy by all of the enemies you’ll come up against.

As well as the typical monsters, you’ll be going up against members of the various Starfield factions, as we did during the dozens of hours we sunk into the game for our Starfield review, so be sure to brush up on those. And if you’re looking for an overview of the game’s locations, our Starfield map will help you out. For now, let’s take a look at all of the Starfield enemies we know about so far.

Starfield human enemies

Like Bethesda’s previous titles like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchise, as well as the hostile wildlife, you’ll also take on human enemies typically belonging to the game’s ‘evil’ factions. You’ll find them in space with their own ships, or sometimes they will have their own outposts on certain planets. These are all of the human enemies we know about so far:

  • Pirates of the Crimson Fleet
  • Ecliptic Mercenaries
  • Violent Spacers
  • Fanatical Religious Zealots

Pirates of the Crimson Fleet

The Starfield Crimson Fleet is a group of space pirates and one of the game’s evil factions. A decentralised group, they comprise pockets of individual crews flying under the same banner and can be found in space and on certain planets.

Starfield creature and monster enemies

Creatures and monsters are usually found while exploring alien planets. While Starfield’s planets are procedurally generated, the game’s creatures are all specifically designed and will be found on specific planets that match their characteristics. These are all of the creatures and monsters we know about so far:

  • Ashta
  • Siren
  • Coralbug Scavenger
  • Maggotmaw
  • Flocking Shroomhead Grazer
  • Kreet Stalker
  • Twintail Herbivore
  • Metropus Floater
  • Herding Crab Herbivore
  • Angler Hexapod
  • Hunting Sailgator
  • Hunting Twistfin
  • Mothwing Grazer
  • Swarming Dragon
  • Hunting Thronmantis

Ashta

Ashta is a giant alien creature found on Akila, that is seen in the game as posing a threat to Akila City, the largest city on the planet, and the capital of the Freestar Collective

Starfield enemies: Asha standing on its hind legs with its head in the air among rainforest

Siren

Found on the planet Alpha Andraste II, the siren is a creature appearing like a cross between a wolf and a dinosaur. It has large, fanged jaws and red spikes coming from its head. They are found roaming in packs, and can be found with a ‘diseased’ modifier, which deals additional damage.

Starfield enemies: A coralbug scavenger with a city and a lake in the background

Coralbug Scavenger

A large, mantis-like insect with a flower as a head. During the Starfield Direct, it was shown as a level 10 monster.

Starfield enemies: The player preparing to attack a maggotmaw with an axe

Maggotmaw

The maggotmaw looks to be a giant, flesh-covered insect-like monster, with a large mouth full of sharp teeth. It also appears with the ‘hunting’ prefix, suggesting there are multiple types of maggotmaw to find.

Flocking Shroomhead Grazer

The flocking shroomhead grazer is a fairly large, green creature with large, black bug-eyes. It appears fairly harmless, and poses no threat to players, but they can still be killed if you choose to.

Kreet Stalker

A large, armoured insect-like creature with huge pincers and spines running the length of its back. While it’s shown to be somewhat hostile to players, it doesn’t seem to attack you unless provoked. They tend to travel in packs, with a group of four being shown in the Starfield Direct.

Starfield enemies: The player preparing to shoot a twintail herbivore

Twintail Herbivore

The Twintail Herbivore is a bipedal creature, larger than a human, which is found on Alpha Andraste III. It features two leafy antennae, as well as two axe-shaped protrusions from its chest.

Metropus Floater

Found on Lantana III, these creatures are akin to a above-water jellyfish. Similar to a balloon, they have a blue liquid sac containing their brain, and what appear to be red tentacles hanging below.

Starfield enemies: The player scanning a herding crab herbivore in a grassland

Herding Crab Herbivore

This is a large, red, crab-like creature found in the grasslands of Tidacha I. They’re pretty big, and will easily be larger than a human, but don’t seem to be particularly hostile to you, unless provoked.

Angler Hexapod

A spider-like creature with six legs and a large armoured bulb on its back, it can be found on the planet Moloch I. It attacks by raising its front legs before using them to strike enemies.

Starfield enemies: The player scanning a hunting sailgator

Hunting Sailgator

The hunting sailgator is an alligator-like creature with a large fin on its back in the shape of a sail. It’s found on the planet Tidacha I, and from scanning it, we know that it’s found in mountains and coniferous forests.

Hunting Twistfin

The hunting twistfin is a dinosaur with large, blue mushroom-like plates growing down the length of its body. From what we’ve seen, they appear to have armour capable of protecting them from weaker guns, so some heavier ammunition might be required to take them down.

Starfield enemies: The player scanning a mothwing grazer flying in the sky in the distance

Mothwing Grazer

We haven’t had a very good look at the mothwing grazer, but it appears to be a relatively large, flying creature, with wings shaped like that of a moth. They’re found flying across all sorts of biomes across Tidacha I, and are not hostile at all to the player.

Starfield enemies: The player scanning a swarming dragon standing among some trees

Swarming Dragon

Swarming dragons are massive, four-legged lizards with razor-sharp teeth and armoured spines across most of their body. They’re found in the swamps and savannas of Tidacha I, and are capable of dealing burning damage to players if provoked.

Starfield enemies: The player about to use xenosociology to control a hunting thornmantis

Hunting Thornmantis

The hunting thornmantis is a large, four-legged insectoid creature with huge preying mantis limbs to attack with. Seen at level 80 in the Starfield Direct with a ‘fearless’ descriptor, we know that this is one of the creatures players can control with one of the new Starfield skills, xenosociology.
