Looking for news on the Starfield DLC? With Starfield set to be one of the biggest releases of the year, and with so much content on offer, it’s no surprise that fans are looking forward to what DLC Bethesda will be cooking up.
With so many Starfield star systems to choose from, there will be plenty of opportunity for DLC, and we wouldn’t be surprised if we get even more Starfield ship customisation options too. Let’s take a look at what we know so far about any and all Starfield DLC.
Does Starfield have DLC?
Yes, Starfield has been confirmed to have DLC. During the Starfield Direct showcase in June, it was revealed that the team are already working on DLC and that more will arrive in future. The first expansion and so far only DLC pack that has been confirmed is the Starfield Shattered Space expansion, which comes with Starfield pre-orders and the Starfield collector’s edition. There will likely also be a season pass available, including the game’s first few expansion packs.
In an interview with IGN, Starfield Game Director Todd Howard spoke about the content of any Starfield DLC, saying that the studio has plans for “a lot of add-on content for Starfield”. As well as including the new items, quests, mechanics, and more that are typical of Bethesda DLC, these future expansions will include story expansion packs, increasing on the main story already featuring in the base game.
Beyond this story expansion pack, we don’t know about any more confirmed DLC, but we do know that more are on the way in the future. In many promotional materials, the Shattered Space DLC is referred to as the ‘first story expansion’. Additionally, Bethesda’s most recent major titles have all featured post-launch DLC, most notably with Skyrim and Fallout 4. These could include new questlines, outpost expansions, planets, and more. As such, unless there is some major change at Bethesda, there are certainly going to be more DLC in future.
When will Starfield DLC arrive?
We don’t know yet when the first Starfield DLC will arrive, but we would guess that it will probably release a few months after Starfield’s initial launch. There is potential that the first DLC could arrive alongside Starfield’s full release, but we think this is unlikely based on how Bethesda have done DLC in the past.
Skyrim and Fallout 4 both received their first piece of DLC a few months after their releases, with Dawnguard and Far Harbor respectively. Further to that, subsequent DLC followed more regularly thereafter. We would assume that Starfield will follow a similar pattern. The first DLC appears to be a big one, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it receives an early 2024 release, but we could get it before the end of the year if we’re lucky.
Can you buy the Starfield DLC now?
While it hasn’t released yet, you can already purchase the Starfield DLC. By preordering the game or buying either the Starfield Digital Premium Edition or Constellation Edition, you will gain access to the Starfield season pass, which will include the first wave of Starfield DLC. However, if you’re planning on playing the game through Xbox Game Pass, be aware that the DLC is not included in the Standard Edition that comes with your subscription. Instead, you will have to buy the Premium Edition upgrade separately, in order to get access to any DLC.
