Modern Warfare 2: Mission 12 Walkthrough – Dark Water 

After the Hitman-Esque stealth of El Sin Nombre, Dark Water is a much more direct, action-heavy mission in Modern Warfare 2. Soap, Ghost, Alejandro, and Graves will storm an oil rig and later a ship, in order to finally destroy the missiles you’ve been searching for across the whole campaign.

Modern Warfare 2 – Dark Water Walkthrough 

You’ll begin Dark Water by rappelling up to the lower deck of the oil rig. Move forwards to the left and open the door ahead. As you move up to the door beyond, it will quickly swing open. Shoot the guard and his ally hiding behind the door to the right. 

The Fennec 45 does great work here as your main firearm but be sure to switch to the FTAC Recon whenever long-range shots are called for. 

Move up the stairs to the left with Alejandro and drop the guards that appear on the upper level. Head to the right and kill the three guards in the room beyond when Alejandro opens the door, watching out for flashbangs in the enclosed space. 

Through the door, you’ll enter an open arena dotted with many small crates. Switch to the FTAC Recon and pick off the guards on the top level above you, before re-equipping the Fennec for the rest. 

Move up the stairs and take out the line of grouped-up enemies in the hallway, before taking the stairs again to the upper level. At the top, you’ll find that the container is empty, and you’ll need to head across to the ship in order to secure the missile controls.

Dark Water – Hit The Deck 

Rappel down into a speedboat with Graves as Alejandro stays behind to secure the rig. After ramping up onto the ship, you’ll find yourself on the deck, beset on all slides by sliding crates. The crates will crush you if you are caught between them, proceed with caution as you pick off enemies on the deck. 

Once at the far end of the deck, move into the room on the right and up the stairs, taking out the guard inside. Graves will follow and hand you charges to plant on the locked door, allowing you entry into the cabin. 

Kill the guards in the galley and begin to move upwards to the bridge. On the second deck, take out the guards in the hallways and the remaining ones in the bunks, before moving inwards and up the stairs to the bridge. Guards will use grenades in these enclosed circumstances, don’t be afraid to back off to safety before moving up. 

Drop the final three enemies at the bridge and move to the controls. Graves will give you a series of instructions to repeat. The correct responses to the instructions are below: 

• Press CLR and MODE simultaneously: C+F keys on PC, Square+Circle on Playstation, X+B on Xbox. 
• Answer: ‘Letter C’ 
• Press EXE: Spacebar on PC, X on Playstation, A on Xbox. 

Follow Graves’ instructions successfully and – after giving Alejandro time to evacuate – you will direct the missiles to destroy the oil rig, successfully completing the Dark Water mission in Modern Warfare 2.
