We’ve seen a lot of dedication from the cast of Baldur’s Gate 3. Astarion actor Neil Newbon ad-libbed the character’s best moment, the cast have been actively fighting the rise of AI voices in games and the RPG genuinely evolved alongside its talented performers. However, if we were looking for the most dedicated BG3 actor, that might have to be Lae’zel performer Devora Wilde.

In a recent interview with the Ready, Aim, Fire podcast, Wilde explained that she was not only heavily pregnant while acting out her performance as Lae’zel, but she was also still recording just two days before giving birth.

Devora Wilde’s dedication to Baldur’s Gate 3

Speaking on the podcast, available here, Wilde explained that she refused to stop her performance as the party’s most active and animated member until she was forced to. Wrapped in a full MoCap suit, Wilde still turned up to record her lines even after Larian told her she didn’t have to.

“At the beginning it was fine but towards the end I was getting a bit ‘oof’. 95% of the time you’d be in the suit, and so by the end I’d have to have a little chair between the lines [to] go and have a little sit down.”

Wilde explained that Larian employees kept asking her if she was sure that she wanted to come in, she was dedicated to continuing her performance as the growing Githyanki.

“I said, ‘Guys I’m gonna be here right up until the due date, just you watch’,” the actor joked. “Nobody was pressuring me to, they were like, ‘You can leave whenever you want’, but I was like, ‘Guys I feel fine, why would I [go]? Let’s hit the ground running now.‘“

Wilde explained that the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, August 2023, was coming up close to the due date of the actor’s baby. With this in mind, the actor kept pushing to record her lines as often as possible until her water broke. Two days before giving birth, the actor was still recording lines.

“It was coming up to that week where I was about to give birth, and I was still coming into the studio, and I was like ‘see you tomorrow!’ and they were like ‘maybe’… And then my waters broke after the session.”

Even after giving birth to a whole human being, Wilde still wanted to go back to work to record more lines. The actor told her husband she wanted to go into work the day after, but was told: “You’re absolutely not going in.”

“I was still very much in denial of the fact that I had to, like, push a human being out,” the actor said.

You can listen to the segment at 24:50 onwards.

The entirety of Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story of dedication: dedication from Larian to spend so much time making such a dense RPG, dedication from the actors (especially Wilde) for their performances, and dedication from the community for not only supporting the game during its lengthy early access period, but afterwards as well.

Right now, that dedication has rippled throughout the entire community with mod teams filled with hundreds of fans creating massive custom campaigns. Because of that dedication, BG3 will likely live for decades, even as Larian starts work on two new games for the future.
