Close Air is a very atypical mission in Modern Warfare 2, with you providing air support to task force 141 instead of directly controlling them.
In an intentional – though more bombastic – homage to the original Modern Warfare’s Death From Above, you will spend the entirety of Close Air taking out cartel targets from above, allowing Soap, Ghost, and Alejandro to finally make their way to Hassan.

Modern Warfare 2 – Close Air Walkthrough.
When Close Air begins, you will be given an explanation of your new capabilities and parameters for the mission. Thermal vision will allow you greater clarity in spotting targets, and you must ensure that you avoid civilians and only take out armed targets. In addition, destroying buildings is not allowed unless authorized first.
Toggle thermal vision on and pan down to the spotter’s light being shined by Soap to confirm the squad’s location.
Track the truck leaving the stables along the road. Switch to thermal and zoom in on the greenhouse. Hassan’s presence will not be confirmed, but you’ll be able to begin the assault. Use the 25MM and take out the armed guards near the greenhouse.
After the civilians flee the stables, switch to the 40MM and bring the stables down, along with the cartel members advancing inside.
Switch out of thermal vision, confirm that Hassan is not inside the greenhouse, then use the 40MM to destroy it as well.

Close Air – Extract The Target
Equip the LTM and take out the water tower housing an RPG that is pinning Soap, Ghost, and Alejandro down. Most surrounding cartel soldiers will be caught in the blast.
With the water tower destroyed, fire an LTM into the enemies amassing in the compound, before switching to the 40MM and bringing down the gate.
Continue to provide the others with air support as they move into the compound and extract Hassan. An armed convoy will begin to close in the compound, use LTMs and 40MMs liberally to deal with them as quickly as possible.
Once this final wave is dealt with, the exfil van will arrive and you will have completed Close Air in Modern Warfare 2.
