Gamers are currently pumped as Rockstar has given us the best early Christmas present possible. The Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer is absolutely beautiful showcasing its gorgeous landscapes stuffed with wild NPCs from supermodels to beer-bellied rednecks. GTA 6 is open-world, as you would expect, but an observation of the artwork could possibly hint at limitations similar to other Rockstar games such as Red Dead Redemption 2.

There are several things we have learned from the GTA 6 trailer so far. The real-life inspiration behind Lucia could spell a grisly fate for the female protagonist, but, away from the story, it’s astounding how good the game looks. The NPCs are insane, we got a glimpse at some of the wildlife such as alligators invading swimming pools, and the cars look better than ever.

It promises to be an incredible adventure. Rockstar is arguably the king of the open-world genre, and the newest Grand Theft Auto seems poised to be an evolution of the genre similar to RDR2.

Is GTA 6 open-world?

Yes, GTA 6 is open-world. The Grand Theft Auto series is famous for its open-world landscapes and formula. They allow you to do anything from driving like a madman to punching anyone in sight. One of the most famous aspects of this formula is the five-star wanted system where more and more police and possibly the army will shoot you down if you continue performing heinous crimes such as running people over.

Rockstar’s trailer largely focuses on the open-world. It is based in Vice City once again, and it looks so much better than the original PS2 release as well as the controversial Definitive Edition remaster. The trailer shows the beaches stuffed with NPCs showcasing different body sizes and types, and it also moves from the beautiful cities and nightlife to muddy moshpits and streets invaded by alligators.

The trailer also showcases strip clubs as well as some of the drivable cars and speedboats. Alas, that’s about it. As for what fans would like to see, wishlists include an overhauled police AI similar to RDR2, as well as more odd jobs as side activities.

Possible open-world limitations

Although GTA 6 is open-world, you may not be able to fully explore all of the map right away. Keen observers over on Reddit have noticed that the artwork showcases Lucia with a police ankle tag. This has resulted in speculation that going to certain parts of the map right away may result in five-star police hunting you down and shooting on sight.

This hasn’t been confirmed, but it wouldn’t be too surprising as it’s sort of been done before. In Red Dead Redemption 2 alone, you cannot travel to New Austin as Arthur as it immediately results in you being Wanted. It’s possible we could see something similar with Lucia in the new Grand Theft Auto, but, again, this is purely speculation.

The GTA 6 trailer opens with Lucia in prison. Fan speculation believes the game may open with her escaping jail, and the trailer shows her and her partner continuing a life of theft and robbery after her incarceration. None of the game’s cast has been announced, but there is fan speculation for the voice actors.
