Now that the long-awaited announcement of Rockstar Games’ next crime-laden project has come and gone, you may ask: Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 and Xbox One? If you have, then you’ve come to the right place. Though most AAA games nowadays have often been current-gen console exclusives, a few releases are still available on older systems, such as Activision’s latest shoot ’em up Modern Warfare 3.

Of course, with the GTA 6 release date still far off, you’ll have plenty of time to upgrade your console if you haven’t yet. That said, here’s what we think about GTA 6’s compatibility with older consoles so you know what to expect beforehand.

Will GTA 6 be on PS4?

Unfortunately, no. We don’t expect GTA 6 to be playable on the PS4 and Xbox One. This is because the upcoming game’s scope is potentially bigger and more graphically demanding than that of GTA 5. This means that the slower and less powerful hardware of the older PlayStation and Xbox consoles would likely struggle under the requirements of Rockstar Games’ next series installment, so the devs will probably be making GTA 6 exclusive for current-gen systems like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Naturally, those on PC will still have the best of both worlds since GTA 5 and GTA 6 should both be available on Windows systems. But even though the sixth mainline entry’s system requirements have yet to be revealed by Rockstar, you may need to prepare for some slight tweaks to your gaming rig because its potential modern console exclusivity essentially means a necessity for higher-end parts.

As always, though, this is still merely speculation for now, so you’ll need to take it with the necessary amount of salt. With the GTA 6 trailer release date practically here, however, you won’t have to wait long for official confirmation of its console compatibility.
