OpenAI recently released a new feature for their chatbot, but how do you enable ChatGPT Custom Instructions?

If you’re in the UK or EU, you won’t be able to access this feature just yet. It’s not clear why this is the case, though it could be due to privacy laws and regulations. It’s possible that it could arrive in those regions at some point, however at the moment it’s limited to the US and other regions.

The feature is among a slew of other new features, including ChatGPT’s code interpreter and others. It allows you to declare a set of instructions that are going to be carried out across a range of conversations. For example, if you’re a programmer developing a tool in a specific programming language, you can declare a set of parameters that will allow you to tell ChatGPT how exactly you want code formatted. This will make it really useful for anyone using it for business and practical uses.

How do you enable ChatGPT custom instructions, you ask? Here’s how you do it.

Firstly, this feature is only available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers as it is still in its Beta.

Now, when you begin a conversation in ChatGPT, you can input your custom instructions and save them, meaning they can be carried out across a range of conversations.

According to OpenAI’s website, ChatGPT custom instructions might be used to ‘improve model performance’ which might cause concerns for privacy. However, you can disable this in data controls.
