Getting a new Stratagem or weapon in Helldivers 2 is always a good day. New weapons and armor are released through the monthly Warbonds, but more recently the Stratagems have been rewarded for completing Major Orders. This gives the community a reason to complete the event and liberate the required planets and it does seem to be leading to more successes in recent months.

U/kralSpitihnev took to Reddit to praise Arrowhead Game Studios’ decision to tie new Stratagems to Major Orders in Helldivers 2, giving players a chance to use it early while also encouraging the community to collectively work toward completing it. “You can only use the new rocket launcher on the current MO planet. This is a great way to reward those who play MO. Bug divers will be able to play with it when the MO is finished, so there is no huge penalty for them,” they said.

“I think this is a good approach, and there should be a bit more of these kind of things. There should be a little reward for following MO, and a little bit of punishment for not following it. You can play with the new weapon if you follow the MO, but you are not losing anything for not playing it.”

The recent Commando Rocket Launcher isn’t the first time that a new weapon has been tied to a Major Order, with the Airburst Rocket Launcher also being a recent example. Other times, Arrowhead gives players a set Stratagem to use for free that will benefit the mission, such as a Flamethrower for Terminid missions while keeping all four of your slots open. This lets you carry even more methods of destruction that can make things a lot more fun.

In recent months, it does seem like this is the direction that Arrowhead Game Studios is going in. The Helldivers 2 developers have also been using Major Orders to give players a choice as to what reward they want to receive, although it seems like they can’t give away the Anti-Tank Mines as the community has opted not to choose them for three months. With the community naturally shrinking as players move on to other games, having a more united effort in the Major Orders is crucial and this seems to be a great way to encourage that.

But for now, players have a bit of breathing room as there is no Major Order, which is a perfect time to try out the new Commando Rocket Launcher. You can also use this time to optimize your loadout so you can be ready to take down the Automatons and Terminids so we can win the Galactic War. To do this, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide.
