The latest Helldivers 2 Major Order event was very unique in that the reward was a brand-new weapon. The catch, there were two to choose from, and depending on which planet you liberated it determined which weapon the community would receive. The two weapons on offer were the Anti-Tank Mines and Airburst Rocket Launcher. Here is how to unlock the new Airburst Rocket Launcher and whether it is worth using.

Now that the latest Helldivers 2 Major Order is over and players have chosen to liberate Penta, that means the Airburst Rocket Launcher is now available to use. While it was freely available for players to use while in Penta during the Major Order, that isn’t the case anymore. Like all other support weapons, it must be purchased from your ship.

The new Airburst Rocket Launcher costs 8,000 Requisitions and can be acquired from your Ship, which is quite expensive when compared to some other weapons. But, as Requisition Slips are easy to come by, you will likely only need to complete at most three missions to afford it if you don’t have the funds available already.

Is The Airburst Rocket Launcher Worth Using?

Although the Airburst Rocket Launcher is still new, and great use cases could be discovered for the weapon, from my experience so far, no it is not worth using. When it comes to the Automatons, the weapon deals very little damage to any of the enemies, even the grunt-like Troopers. It is even worse when performing against heavier enemies such as the Deveastator and Scout Strider.

The only good use case I have found for the Airburst Rocket Launcher so far is that it can exterminate groups of Terminid Scavenger grunt enemies. With it being easy to become overwhelmed by hordes of Terminids, this could come in handy. However, with it having such a large blast radius, it is only effective when the enemies are at a distance. But in that case, you could simply shoot them with a primary weapon such as the Marksman Rifle or even use an Eagle Cluster Run Stratagem to take them out too. Although it is effective against weaker enemies at range, it doesn’t seem to make sense to carry it over a Recoilless Rifle, Quasar Cannon, or any other support weapon.

The Helldivers 2 community often immediately writes off new weapons in favor of what they’re used to using, so it is worth at least checking out the weapon and seeing if it works for you. And if someone in the community discovers a great use case for the Airburst Rocket Launcher, we will keep you up to date with the latest strategies and metas.
