It’s great news for Samus Aran, as Metroid Dread is on track to be the best selling Metroid game in the series’ history, at least in the UK.

According to the latest UK games charts from GfK the game has comfortably taken the number 3 spot in physical sales. According to GamesIndustry.biz that means it surpasses the series previous best selling title, 2007’s Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It also managed to sell three and a half times as many copies as Metroid: Samus Returns on the 3DS in 2017.

It’s also worth noting that this only covers physical sales, as Nintendo doesn’t release digital sales figures publicly. So Metroid Dread stands to add even more to its selling figure tally. GamesIndustry.biz also notes that Metroid Dread is now the fifth biggest Switch launch of 2021. Ahead of it are Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Monster Hunter Rise and New Pokémon Snap. Excellent company indeed.

It’s certainly promising for whenever Metroid Prime 4 finally materialises. The long awaited, long-in-development sequel was rebooted at Retro Studios back in 2019. We’ve not seen much of it since, but the studio was recruiting as recently as last year for the project. Hopefully, we’ll hear more soon.

In the meantime, Metroid Dread is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
