Nintendo has today announced that we’re set to get another Detective Pikachu adventure on October 6, 2023, titled ‘Detective Pikachu Returns.’ With the Nintendo Direct now over fans have also taken to social media to show their excitement for the upcoming Pokémon game.
The latest entry in the now Detective Pikachu series will allow players to, “Solve mysteries with the personality-packed Detective Pikachu.” The game sees the return of Tim Goodman and Detective Pikachu who are described as, “the ideal detective duo” in a brand-new adventure.
The sequel was originally announced back in 2019 after the success of Detective Pikachu on the 3DS, which was initially released in 2016 in Japan before releasing worldwide in 2018. The original follows the story of both Pikachu and Tim Goodman, who coincidentally is able to understand what Pikachu is saying. Players are able to solve a number of cases by gathering evidence at crime scenes as well as speaking with other people and Pokémon that may have seen what happened.
Detective Pikachu was a big departure from the Pokémon series back in 2016 but since the release of the game worldwide in 2018 and the film adaptation in 2019, a cult following has grown around the spin-off.
Taking to Twitter, fans were elated about the announcement with one fan saying, “I was JOKING when I said I wanted to see Detective Pikachu 2 today and I’m SO HAPPY IT’S NOT A JOKE.” They continued, “I never thought there’s actually be a sequel I’m SO F**KING STOKED.”
Alongside the announcement of Detective Pikachu Returns we also got a look at Super Mario Bros. Wonder which is a co-op 2D platformer that looks like pure chaos. Also Mario related, the Super Mario RPG remake is finally making its way to Nintendo Switch! However, with every Nintendo Direct, there could have always been more and we noticed 7 games missing from the June 2023 Nintendo Direct.
