Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the most anticipated games coming out this year. Fans have been waiting several years for the sequel to finally arrive, and we only have to wait one week longer for it to come out. Some fans were hoping there would be multiplayer, to which the game’s director has explained why there is no online co-op for Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The release date for Dragon’s Dogma 2 is March 22nd. You can pre-order the game right now to preload on Xbox and eventually PS5, and you should know the minimum and recommended system requirements if you are planning to play on PC.

Everything about the game looks incredible, including the surprisingly in-depth character creator suite. While the character creator, gameplay, open-world, and boss battles all look amazing, the unfortunate truth for some fans is that Capcom was never going to fulfill the wishes of players wanting co-op.

Why there is no online co-op in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Speaking to Automaton, Dragon’s Dogma 2 director, Hidetaki Itsuno, explained why there is no multiplayer co-op in the game. When asked if Capcom is considering any multiplayer options, Itsuno provided the following response:

“We have not been considering any form of multiplayer for Dragon’s Dogma 2. I think online games have their good sides; just as offline games have their own.

“But the concept of the original game was to incorporate fun gameplay elements not found in conventional offline games while removing all the “hassles” of online games. This is one of the basic original ideas of the first game that I don’t plan on straying from. “

Although some will be disappointed that there is no multiplayer co-op in the game, the good news is that there is still an online component. Basically, you will create a custom main pawn to accompany your Arisen, and other players will be able to hire this pawn to accompany them in their own world. Similarly, you will be able to hire pawns from other players all around the globe.

Unfortunately, there is no cross-platform when it comes to pawns. This means if you are playing on PS5 you can only recruit pawns from other PS5 players. The same restrictions apply to Arisen heroes on PC and Xbox Series X/S.

You can create your Arisen and main custom pawn right now by downloading the free character creator demo. This character creator is arguably the best of any single-player game, and the decision to release a demo has been ingenious as fans have been using it to recreate all sorts of celebrity faces and iconic characters from other IPs.
