Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and Director Hideaki Itsuno have finally revealed the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date during their in-depth showcase held in November 2023. As expected, Capcom will launch their much anticipated open-world action RPG in early 2024, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

Of course, the game’s release date wasn’t the only exciting tidbit shown once the Dragon’s Dogma 2 2023 showcase start time kicked off. Capcom also displayed the sequel’s sprawling environment and sword-slashing throughout the lengthy exhibit, all of which we’ll be looking at below so you know what to expect ahead of time.

When is the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date?

The Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date will take place on Friday, March 22, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Unfortunately, Capcom’s long-awaited series sequel will not be playable on previous-gen platforms since the game makes use of the company’s proprietary RE Engine, the same software used to create some of the studio’s other high-profile entries like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Street Fighter 6.

What is the Dragon’s Dogma 2 story?

According to Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the Dragon’s Dogma 2 story “is a tale of the Arisen, whose heart is taken by the Dragon.” The sequel’s setting will largely be similar to the first game, though in a completely different world where your character will be placed between two vastly different kingdoms.

The first, the human kingdom of Vermund, sees its most influential figures in a power struggle for the throne. Much like any dramatic medieval plot, plenty of lies, betrayals, and deception abound in Vermund, as Queen Regent Disa plots to have her son falsely take the throne. Conversely, the nation of Battahl boasts an entirely different belief system, with its government painting Pawns as the source of all misfortune and the nation’s residents, along with Empress Nadinia, worshipping the Lambent Flame.

As you progress through the story, you’ll also be able to befriend several characters, including a couple of elven siblings you meet as part of a quest. Based on the short teasers shown during Capcom’s showcase, you will need to accomplish specific tasks before they can accompany you on your adventure, including saving certain companions from bloodthirsty ogres.

Will there be new monsters in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Yes, there will be new monsters in Dragon’s Dogma 2, including Talos, a gigantic, destructive statue that you’ll need to defeat at some point in the game. Though details on its origin and intent remain scarce, the short snippet provided by Capcom sees your character tasked with defeating this monstrosity in a prolonged multi-scene fight reminiscent of the David vs. Goliath encounters in Shadow of the Colossus.

Director Hideaki Itsuno also added: “You’ll be able to enjoy a variety of combat experiences depending on how you choose to tackle each situation,” meaning the game won’t pigeonhole you into finishing particular objectives in a specific way. In addition to Talos, the developers also showcased fights against a deadly Drake and the ghostly Dullahan, so there will be plenty of new foes to vanquish throughout the story.

That covers all you need to know for now about the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date.
