As with any new release, you might be worried about the possibility of Tekken 8 microtransactions. Publishers can’t seem to help themselves, and most modern games feature some sort of in-game currency you need to spend real money to earn.

While Tekken 8 has announced paid DLC – which might as well be a microtransaction depending on who you ask – there are some concerns that customisation of characters might be monetised, or at least have the option to be bought via real money instead of unlocking them through playing.

For more Tekken, make sure you read our Tekken 8 release date page and our guide covering whether Tekken 8 will be on Switch. The Tekken series has a long history of using paid DLC to add old characters to modern games, so what can we expect when it comes to Tekken 8 microtransactions?

Will Tekken 8 have microtransactions?

No, Tekken 8 will not have any in-game microtransactions. While Bandai Namco has not expressly said this, we can see from the demo and other material about the game that there is no online shop or store in the game you need to pay with real money to unlock anything. There will be customisation for the entire roster, but it will all be done for free and earned by playing the game.

How much DLC will Tekken 8 have?

If you want to get an idea as to how much DLC there might be for Tekken 8, you need only look at how Bandai Namco shipped Soulcalibur 6. After its initial launch, several waves of DLC and two purchasable ‘Season Pass’ items were sold to let you access new characters as they were released. While this might not be the case for Tekken, it stands to reason it could follow a similar path.

With that said, there are certainly aspects of the game that will give you more things if you pay more money. Specifically, there are various editions of Tekken 8 and there is a paid DLC character pass for one year. This is toeing the line between microtransactions for new characters, it also implies that after buying this first-year pass, there will be another one following that.

Tekken 8 microtransactions FAQs

Will Tekken 8 have cosmetics?

Yes, it appears there are a lot of cosmetic options for each character in Tekken 8.

Will Tekken 8 have a battle pass?

We don’t know, but we hope it doesn’t. Tekken 8 isn’t a free-to-play game, so the battle pass doesn’t make any sense.
