Tekken is a long and storied series of games, with several main entries and spin-offs being released throughout the years if can be hard to keep track of every Tekken release.

Starting in 1994 with the original release of Tekken on the PlayStation One. From 1994 all the way to 2024, we’ve seen only eight mainline Tekken games, but the total number of Tekken games is much higher when you consider re-releases and the various spinoffs that have spawned.

For more Tekken, read our guide covering all Tekken 8 voice actors and the Tekken 8 release date. Now, this is every mainline Tekken release in chronological order.

As mentioned, Tekken first entered the ring in 1994 when it first appeared in Arcades. After that, Tekken was also released on Sony’s PlayStation One. We will include the Tekken Tag Tournament games since they are so closely related to the main series.

As a note, Tekken 5, Tekken 6, Tekken 7, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 all received an updated version after the initial release. These games were shipped under new names and came out sometime after the first release of the game:

  • Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (2005)
  • Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion (2008)
  • Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited (2012)
  • Tekken 7: Fated Retribution (2016)

With Tekken 8, this marks the end of the long drought from 2015, which is when Tekken 7 was released. For nearly 10 years there hasn’t been a new mainline Tekken game, so to say fans are excited about 8 is an understatement.

That’s all you need to know about every Tekken game that has been released throughout the history of the series. For more Tekken, make sure you read our pages covering Tekken 8 DLC and whether or not Tekken 8 will be on Xbox Game Pass when it launches.
