Wondering what the Tears of the Kingdom Sage’s Will you just picked up is? Then you’re in luck. In a matter of minutes you’ll know everything about these charming collectables in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

Unlike Star Fragments, which return from the prequel on Nintendo Switch, Breath of the Wild, Sage’s Wills are new to TotK, much like Bubbul Gem. But what is a Sage’s Will, what does it do, and where can you find more of them? Heed this warning that there are minor spoilers contained within if you haven’t completed one of the four main objectives in the Regional Phenomena quest, however.

What are Sage’s Wills in Tears of the Kingdom?

According to the game text, Sage’s Wills are, ‘the remnants of a former Sage’s resolve. If you gather four of them and offer them to a Goddess Statue, you can deepen your connection with the Sages’. What this means materially is that you’ll be able to upgrade a designated sage’s attack power.

Sages bridge the Sacred realm with Hyrule and act as guardians of the Master Sword’s power. There are nine Sages, split across two groups – with seven in one, and two in the other. They’re considered some of the most powerful entities, and so throughout history were often hunted down and killed in an attempt to stop them becoming too powerful.

In the game, some of these Sages are companions – and there are five of them in total. You’ll know when you’ve come across a Sage’s Will, as it’s a small green stone that is believed to have belonged to a sage. Holding it in your hand, you can feel the remnants of a strong bond.

Tears of the Kingdom Sage’s Will locations

Sages’s Wills are not the easiest things to find, but for the completionists out there, it’ll certainly be rewarding. Just like all the Tears of the Kingdom shrines, you’ll need to explore Hyrule’s vast landscape in order to track down Sage’s Wills. Some of these islands can be hard to reach, so the more stamina you have, and the more Zonai Charge you have, the more easily you’ll be able to get to some of the more far-flung islands.

These are all of the non-combat Sage’s Will locations:

South Hyrule Sky Archipelago

This Sage’s Will is on the South Hyrule Sky Archipelago, and to access the chest, you must drain the water from the pond. Lift up the floodgate and attach it to a log with Ultrahand to stop it from coming back down and all the water will flow out, leaving the chest – and plenty of fish – for you to pick up.

Sokkala Sky Archipelago

Fly to the Sokkala Sky Archipelago from the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower or the Water Temple. Use the catapult to enter the hole in the giant orb. Turn the orb around so that the opening lines up with the orb’s equator. Jump off the edge and glide down, underneath the floor inside the orb to reveal a chest sitting in the middle of this lower section.

Lanayru Sky Archipelago

Fly into the air using the Upland Zorana Skyview Tower to reach a giant orb floating above, or fast travel to the Jirutagumac Shrine. Disable the fan which is turning the cog at the centre, and then manually turn it until the opening lines up with the orb’s equator. Jump out and glide into the lower section of the orb to find a chest in the centre.

North Necluda Sky Archipelago

Fast travel to the Josiu Shrine, or glide east from the Great Sky Island to reach a small collection of islands. Aim the central catapult east towards a small island covered in luminous rocks. Shoot yourself over here, and land on the eastern side of this island, where you’ll find a chest containing a Sage’s Will.

South Eldin Sky Archipelago

Launch yourself using the Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower or fast travel to the Kadaunar Shrine. Head to the southwest island. Jump off the northern side and land on a small ledge slightly lower down. Clear the vines and enter a small area with some Constructs. Clear this area until you find the chest behind a metal wall. Drop down to another area below this and use Ascend to enter the room with the chest.

Eldin Sky Archipelago

From the South Eldin Sky Archipelago in our previous entry, use the catapult to shoot yourself directly north towards a small island just south of Goron City. This island is very far from any others, and will require around two full bars of stamina or use of Zonai Devices to reach, so be creative if you need to be. Land here and take out the Construct before opening the chest for a Sage’s Will.

North Gerudo Sky Archipelago

At the centre of this archipelago is a giant orb. It’s very high up and quite far from other islands, so you’ll need to build yourself a flying machine to get here. Luckily, the gravity here is weak, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting high enough to fly over and enter the orb. Inside is a light puzzle.

Reflect the lights from mirror to mirror and point it directly at a yellow switch in front of a small room to your right. Open this room and head inside and you’ll find a chest containing the Sage’s Will. Once you’ve done this, remember to come back and shine the light at the mirror on the central platform to reveal a Shrine.

East Gerudo Sky Archipelago

Fly northeast of the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower or teleport to the Rakashog Shrine to find a small collection of islands making up the East Gerudo Sky Archipelago. Fly to the northernmost one, using the Skyview Tower or the catapult on the central island. The island has three levels. Head to the second level, and use the mirrors provided to reflect the light of the sun towards a switch on the level below. Once the switch is powered, the door will open, revealing a chest with a Sage’s Will inside.

South Hebra Sky Archipelago

East of Rito Village are two small sky islands. Glide to the northern one from the Wind Temple, or to the southern one from the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower if you haven’t completed the temple yet. Attach a hook to a wooden board, and place a fan on the back. Hook it to the rail and ride it to the northern island where you’ll find a chest containing a Sage’s Will.

North Tabantha Sky Archipelago

Just south of Rito Village is a chain of three small sky islands. If you’ve already got Zora Armour, glide south from the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower and swim up the waterfall on the easternmost island using the Zora Armor. Use a minecart with rockets to reach the middle island, and a Zonai Wing to reach the western island. Here you’ll find a chest containing the Sage’s Will.

Thunderhead Isles

The Thunderhead Isles contain two Sage’s Wills. Because of the storm it can be hard to navigate, so it’s best to use locations on the ground to guide where you’re going. The first Sage’s Will is located on an island above Guchini Plain, while the second is above a small lake across the river to the east of Sarjon Woods.

While the second chest is directly accessible, the first chest is hidden inside an island. Break some rocks in the middle of the island and drop down into a corridor with a Shock Like. Follow a series of lamps which will guide you through the corridor to the Sage’s Will at the end.

Here are all of the combat-related Sage’s Will locations:

Wellspring Island Flux Construct II

Wellspring Island is located directly below the Water Temple, and you’ll come across it during the Sidon of the Zora main quest. Alternatively, fast travel to the Water Temple entrance or Igoshon Shrine and head to the large circular arena. The chest is on the shoulder of the Flux Construct II and can be opened after defeating it.

Lanayru Sky Archipelago Flux Construct II

Southwest of the Water Temple and directly south of the Jirutagamac Shrine is another arena featuring a Flux Construct II. The easiest way to reach this is to glide over from the Water Temple, but flying machines can be used from other islands, too. Here you’ll find a Flux Construct II with a chest on its shoulder. Defeat it and open the chest for a Sage’s Will.

Tabantha Sky Archipelago Flux Construct III

If you’ve unlocked the Ganos Shrine, simply glide north from there. Otherwise, head southwest from the Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower and land on a large arena at the centre of the Tabantha Sky Archipelago. Here you’ll find a Flux Construct III . Defeat the Construct and claim the chest for a Sage’s Will.

Faron Sky Archipelago Flux Construct III

This island is located directly above Lake Hylia and can be reached by gliding south/southwest from the Great Sky Island. Here you’ll find a Flux Construct III, which will drop a chest when defeated containing a Sage’s Will.

South Necluda Sky Archipelago Flux Construct III

Fly directly south from the Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower and you’ll find a single large arena floating on its own. Here you’ll find a Flux Construct III with a chest on its shoulders. Defeat it to make it drop the chest, which can be opened to obtain a Sage’s Will.

West Hebra Sky Archipelago King Gleeok

The easiest of three King Gleeoks to reach, head to the In-ijo Shrine just west of the Rospro Pass Skyview Tower. From here, build a flying machine and southwest to a large arena in the distance. The arena is very high up, so you’ll want to have as much Zonai Charge as you can muster. Once you’re here, you’ll have to defeat the King Gleeok, which will drop a chest containing a Sage’s Will.

East Gerudo Sky Archipelago King Gleeok

In the far southwest of the map is an arena housing a King Gleeok. Head to the Rakashog Shrine on the East Gerudo Sky Archipelago and build yourself a flying machine. The arena is very far away, so you’ll need lots of Zonai Charge, and simply gliding on a Zonai Wing won’t work. Once you make it, defeat the King Gleeok and open the chest it drops to receive a Sage’s Will.

Eventide Island Sky King Gleeok

In the far southeast of the map is Eventide Island, and above it is a large floating arena. Head to the Kumamayn Shrine in the Necluda Sky Archipelago, reachable from the Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower. Build a flying machine and head southeast to the arena. It’s some distance, so make sure you’ve got enough Zonai Charge to make it. Once you’re there, defeat the King Gleeok to receive a chest with a Sage’s Will inside.
