You’ve already fought the Tears of the Kingdom Queen Gibdo once by the time you reach her atop the Lightning Temple. But don’t get complacent, as she’s a far more challenging prospect the second time around.

If you’ve reached this point, it means you’ve already conquered everything the Tears of the Kingdom Lightning Temple had to throw at you. So ready those Tears of the Kingdom arrows, and we’ll take you through round two with the Tears of the Kingdom Queen Gibdo.

Tears of the Kingdom Queen Gibdo boss guide

Before you start the fight with Queen Gibdo, there’s some preparation you’ll want to do. Firstly, stock up on arrows. You probably already have a fair few, but you’ll be using them plenty, so try and aim for at least 50 to be on the safe side. Make sure to cook some meals, too. Queen Gibdo hits hard, and if you’re not careful you could find yourself with half a heart and no healing. With that out of the way, let’s move on to the main event.

The first phase against Queen Gibdo shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge. She will occasionally fire a beam of sand which tracks Link, which you can run away from or block. Charge up Riju’s lightning attack and fire an arrow at her to remove the first layer of her defences. You can also use a fire or shock arrow to do this, and if you can spare some materials to fuse, this will speed the fight up a lot.

In this form, she’ll create several sand tornadoes, which are reasonably easy to dodge. Just charge up and fire another lightning attack. While the tornadoes are slow-moving and easy to avoid, they can still cause you problems. They can block your arrows, and can also blow Riju away if she gets hit, which will reset her lightning charge.

Once you’ve hit her twice, she’ll be stunned, letting you walk up to her head and start dealing some damage. After a while, she’ll get back up and charge at you, knocking you back and dealing decent damage if you get hit. Repeat this phase until she reaches 50% health, when she will begin her second phase.

In her second phase, the four gibdo nests in the room will start spawning gibdo, including flying gibdo. They move quickly and can quickly kill you if you aren’t careful. Charge up a lightning attack and hit one of the nests when it’s glowing bright pink to destroy it. This will create an area of natural sunlight from outside the temple, which will damage or even kill gibdo if they touch it.

You’re largely safe here, but try not to hang around, as you can still be hit by Queen Gibdo, as well as flying gibdo which can spit a green sludge on you to damage you. Once you get into the light, try and charge up another lightning attack as soon as you can and move on to the next nest. A great option here is to use bomb flowers. By using your Tears of the Kingdom Fuse ability to combine a bomb flower with an arrow, you can destroy a nest without waiting for Riju, making the gibdo threat much less pressing.

Once the nests are gone and the gibdo are dead, focus your attention back on Queen Gibdo. The approach is exactly the same as her first phase. Use Riju’s lightning or a fire or shock arrow to weaken her defences, before hitting her with another lightning attack to stun her. Her tornado attack spawns more tornadoes this time, so watch out for those, but overall, you shouldn’t have any more trouble than you did in phase one.

Hit her with a few lightning strikes and before you know it, you’ll have her down to zero health. Once you defeat her, a short cutscene plays where her body is destroyed and you’ll be rewarded with a shiny Heart Container. Having defeated Queen Gibdo, the Sand Shroud over the Gerudo Desert will disappear, making it far easier to traverse the region.
