How long is Super Mario RPG remake?

The main story of the Super Mario RPG remake takes around 10-12 hours to complete. This is based on our time with the game for our review, where we largely focused on the story, but did take some time out of our adventure here and there to take part in some of the side content as well.

During the main game, there isn’t a huge amount of side content available aside from a few minigames, so we would be surprised if it took much longer than this even if you were making a point of playing every minigame you found. This isn’t a surprise though, as the combat and battle system are pretty fast-paced, so you get through it all fairly quickly.

However, this isn’t necessarily the end of the game, as there’s a whole raft of post-game content available once you save Star Road and the Mushroom Kingdom from the Smithy Gang. This features much boss rematches which are much harder than the first time around. These are a nice challenge, and test your skills a bit more than the base game does, but they still won’t take you more than an extra two hours or so to complete.

Alex’s Advice

Playing minigames can be a great way of getting some quick Coins if you’re running a bit low and are looking to get some for a spending spree.

After this, there are a fair few collectibles you might want to get, or tasks to complete such as completing your Monster List or perfecting the minigames. All in all, it would probably take no more than 18-20 hours to complete all that the Super Mario RPG remake has to offer, which is supposedly around the same time it takes to complete the classic original version on the Super Nintendo.

Personally, this wasn’t a bad thing. I love a good RPG, but as they often require such a heavy time investment I find myself put off starting one, or never finishing them. So being able to have a good time finishing a fairly short one like this was nice, but naturally whether you feel the same is up to you.
