Are you wondering how to evolve Scyther in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? This fan-favorite bug-type Pokémon is very strong and makes a great addition to your team. When evolved, this Pokémon turns into Scizor, a bug and steel Pokémon.
If you want to complete the Pokédex in Scarlet and Violet, you need to know how to evolve every Pokémon. There are plenty of evolutions to see in both games.
If you are looking for the easiest way to evolve your Scyther so you can get your hands on Scizor or Kleavor, you have come to the right place. Get your Nintendo Switch ready. Here is how to evolve Scyther in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
How To Evolve Scyther in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
In order to evolve Scyther, you need to acquire it in a trade while it’s holding a Metal Coat. The best way to do this is to coordinate with a friend so you can swap Scythers that have the Metal Coat held item. We’ve explained the step-by-step process, from acquiring a Scyther to evolving it into a Scizor or Kleavor, below:Â
Where to find Scyther
The first step to evolving Scyther is to catch one. In order to encounter one in Pokemon Scarlet, players can head to any of the following areas:
- Casseroya Lake at Glaseado Mountains
- Glaseado Mountains
- South Province (Area 4)
- North Province (Area 2)
You’ll come across wild Scyther most commonly in the Glaseado Mountains and nearby lakes. This species of Pokemon likes to roam around the edges of ponds and other water bodies, so make sure to have a look there.
If you want to catch Scyther early on in the game, you can try searching for it around the Southern province. Since these Scythers will be lower-leveled, they’ll also be easier to catch. Make sure to check each area we mentioned in the Paldea Region.
How To Find A Metal Coat
The next step is finding the Metal Coat special item. Currently, there are only two known ways in which you can get your hands on this item, and they both involve burning through some of your Pokémon Dollars.
Try The Auction House
The first method is to try your luck at the Auction House. Since it’s not guaranteed that a vendor has the Metal Coat in stock, you’ll have to stop by the shop every day until you luck out.
The other disadvantage of the Auction House is that sale prices can be unfairly high after your bidding war with the NPC. Meaning you could be paying around ₽10,000 if you’re against a really stubborn NPC (at that point, we’d suggest you just let them have the Metal Coat).
Head Over To Delibirds Presents
You can avoid making such a hefty investment in the Auction House if you make your way to Delibirds Presents in Levincia, where you can purchase the Metal Coat at the fixed price of ₽3,000. This is the only branch of Delibird Presents that sells this item, so the downside here is that you’ll have to explore till Levincia in order to buy it.
Trading And Evolving Scyther
After you (and your trading buddy) have acquired a Scyther and a Metal Coat, you can set a Link Trade between yourselves and swap Scythers. It’s important to note that you’ll be trading the Scyther you caught initially, so if you want to hunt for a particular Scyther (Nature, IV set), you’ll need to ask your buddy to find that specific Scyther for you.Â
Upon trading Scythers, they will automatically evolve, given that they were holding the Metal Coats. You won’t have to wait for the next level-up to get your Scizor.
How To Get Kleavor
The only means of evolving Scyther into its Husuian evolution Kleavor is to transfer Scyther from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet to Pokemon Legends Arceus through Pokemon Home. After this, you need to give Scyther the Black Augurite item.
Stat Difference Of Scyther Evolutions
Scyther is currently evolved only into Scizor if you play your cards right. We’ve listed the change in stats below so you can judge for yourself if the whole evolution process is something worth investing your time in:
